Any early music fans here?

By "early music", I am referring to the genre of music, both sacred and secular, from Europe from about the 10th-15th centuries (the earliest genre taught in most college music appreciation courses).

Examples of artists: Perotin, Dufay, Machaut, Josquin.

Any other fans of such music?

I know a litle Jordi Saval and (his wife) Montserrat Figueras. I have never heard a voice such as Montserrat's. And the interpretation style is beautiful!

I like some early music, but my knowledge of that time period is rather limited, most of the earlier stuff I listen to is 1500-1630. I love William Byrd, Tobias Hume, Claudio Monteverdi, John Dowland, Thomas Tallis, etc. I've heard Palestrina is one of the pinnacle choral composers of that period, I've been meaning to check him out but haven't gotten around to it. Monteverdi is actually among my top 10 favorite composers, among all periods .

It's not necessarily my favourite period, but there are some gems that I really adore, such as this one!

I have never heard of any of those composers. But I'm definitely going to find some of their works to listen to. I'm curious to find out what it sounds like.

Sorry for the double post...but I was thinking about this after I'd already posted.

Anyone else find it absolutely amazing that there are people out there still listening to this music despite how long ago it was written? I wonder what some of these composers would think if they knew we were still listening to and enjoying their music.

As a kid I got fascinated with the Middle Ages and my mom had a record called "Medieval Roots" that I just wore out. I never looked into specific composers, though. I think that's why I got so into '70s folk rock like Fairport Convention and Steelyeye Span in the '90s though.

And I liked the names of the instruments, like a sackbut (tee-hee! he said butt!) and a shawmb. If the internet had been around in the '70s I'd have been diagnosed Aspie for sure.

His signature hit "La Dousa Votz" is a great headbanging song.

Hildegard van Bingen is also good.

Wow! I know all these composers! I also like Henry VIII even though it gets pretty repetitive. Do you know Janequin? Giuseppe Caimo? Also, I really enjoy Claudio Monteverdi but that's more baroque.
