Quote:
Portraits of perfection: No, they're not photos, but pencil drawings by a young genius from a tough council estate
  • Subjects range from singers Beyonce and Amy Winehouse to Mother Teresa and Princess Diana
  • Each expressive piece is made using primarily a set of pencils and the occasional stick of charcoal on paper
  • Artist Kelvin Okafor is gaining great acclaim for his incredible work
Stare closely at the pictures on this page. What do you think it took to create these beautiful images of Amy Winehouse, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana and Rihanna? An expensive camera, a precision lens, hours of trial and error from a skilled photographer?

Well, the answer is none of the above.

All of these extraordinarily detailed pictures are pencil drawings, created purely by hand — with no digital trickery — by British artist Kelvin Okafor, whose only tools are a set of pencils, a piece of paper and the occasional stick of charcoal (though most of the pictures don’t even require that). Yet no matter how closely one looks, there’s not a pencil line in sight.

Here's some of his drawings:

The website http://www.amusingplanet.com/ has featured such drawings in the past. They are always very interesting.

Here are some samples:

Is there something malformed about the img codes in the preceding posting? Or is the software for this site broken?

I suspect that the software is broken.

I suspect it's something to do with the URL code.

[b]eric76[/b}: Why not download them all, resize them to 800px at the longest end if necessary, and up them to Imgur?

What's interesting is that the url links seem okay. I haven't tested all of them, but those I tested are just fine. It's just the img links. The only conclusion I can make is that the software is buggy.

I've seen this a time or two in the past when I tried to post an image. On other occasions, though, the images worked just fine.

Let me try a few different variations:

The image as posted above:

The image without the "imgmax=800" portion:

Hmmmm. It shows up the second time in the preview mode. If the image link doesn't end in .jpg (or other valid image identifier), it must not handle the image correctly.

Let me try this without the "?imgmax=800" portions of the links:

I think I may have just learnt how to post an image. thanks

This guy is amazing.

During classification nobody believed they were not photographs and that this was "impossible" etc.

Great talent! Brilliant. and £10,000 each picture for the artist now.

If I remember correctly, this was what led me to the Amusing Planet website. I came across something by Nathan Walsh in a news report and did a search that led to the Amusing Planet web site.

As in the rest of my posts here, the images are just samples. There are many more at the link provided.

It wouldn't surprise if Kelvin Okafor was on the spectrum somewhere especially since I read he draws from memory.

As per your query here: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt222525.html
When using the [img] BBCode tags the provided URL must start with "http://" (not "https://") and end with a filename of type jpg, png or gif.
In other words, only something which resolves directly and exclusively to an image filename will work.

Please also ensure that images are no larger than 800x600 otherwise they will be distorted by the forum software, because it fails to resize correctly when they are larger.

As I said, it's easier to resize and upload to Imgur.
