Was listening to music today and realized a lot of the songs I have on my playlist seem to have been written by someone with AS because the lyrics really touch home. I figured we should have a thread to share such songs with each other. Ill go first.

After Midnight Project - "Take me Home"
Garbage - "The Trick is to Keep Breathing"
Lacuna Coil - "Stars"
Lacuna Coil - "Falling"
Disturbed - "Forsaken"
Linkin Park - "A Place for my Head"
Metallica - "Until it Sleeps"

I have more but its getting late.. will add more later.

The AMP one is pretty obscure though if anyone wants to hear it.. whats the policy for linking to copywritten content? Couldnt find anything in the rules.

Who can it be now? by the Man At Work. It's a 1982 song about wanting to be alone in your room, very nice. I love this part:

All I wish is to be alone;
Stay away, don't you invade my home.
Best off if you hang outside,
Don't come in - I'll only run and hide.

And then there is this line in the second verse:

There's nothing wrong with my state of mental health.

Almost all songs of Absurd Minds (German EBM band).

Absurd Minds - Essence
All is the Self, all is myself
All is you and yours. There is nobody else.

Absurd Minds - Deception
you think that I`m heartless.
they believe that I have a heart of stone,
cause it doesn`t make any difference to me,
- if it`s a grain of sand or if it`s a human being.
I`m not heartless.
you`ve got to know I ain`t got a heart of stone,
cause I distinguish between truth and illusion.
I tell them apart. (...)
my brain has gotta put together
pictures of thought and sight.
those constitute the mind.
in my mind one resembles the other.
there is no chance to grade.

KRAFTWERK is the ultiimant aspie band

Image

I know very little about the personal lives of Kraftwerk. Their music is very popular with geeks and not so popular with woman. Just like me they don't like using the phone.

the lyrics of crawlin by linkin park i have a feeling was wrote by an aspie for some reason. how i knwo is that i looke dup the lyrics online after hearing it on youtube.

sounds like someone is complaining about insecurity and falling or anger and wants to cure it. on youtube the kid in scene was angery over a squeaky hinge in the school cafeteria and by end of song he grabbed wd-40 and oiled it.

I think the song "Alien" by Atlanta Rhythm Section is a perfect aspie song. I've posted the lyrics here before so a search will find them. If not, I can post them again if you like.

I first heard that song on the radio early in the morning nearly 25 years ago and it really spoke to me. Everytime I heard it, it described how I was feeling inside so well.

I second KRAFTWERK.

Some stuff off the top of my head...

Paul Simon - "I am A Rock", "A Most Peculiar Man".
Bowie - "Conversation Piece".
Red House Painters - " Medicine Bottle."
Codeine - "Pea".

some good choices there, I think I have most of the above songs in my collection, aspies obviously have good taste

here's some more to think about

White Snake - Here I go again
This is certainly how I feel sometimes, 'born to walk alone on the street of empty dreams'

Quote:
An here I go again on my own
Goin down the only road Ive ever known,
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

Alabama 3 - Woke up this morning (Sopranos theme song)
I highlighted probably the most relevant bit, never quite knowing how other people see things, I certainly know how that is...

Quote:
When you woke up this morning
Everything was gone
By half past ten your head was going
Ding-dong ringin' like a bell
From your head down to your toes
Like some voice tryin' to tell you
There's somethin' you should know
Last night you was flyin' but today you're so low
Ain't it times like these
Makes you wonder (go back) if you'll ever know
The meaning of things as they appear to the others

Wives, husbands, mothers
Fathers, sisters and brothers (tell 'em go home)
Don't you wish you didn't function
Don't you wish you didn't think
Beyond the next paycheck and the next little drink
Well, you do so make up your mind to go on
'Cause when you woke up this mornin'
Everything you had was gone

Puddle of Mudd - Blurry
It's all pretty self explanatory really, everyone seems fake, empty, messed up etc, that's NTs for ya

Quote:
Everything's so blurry
and everyone's so fake
and everybody's empty
and everything is so messed up
pre-occupied without you
I cannot live at all
My whole world surrounds you
I stumble then I crawl

You could be my someone
you could be my scene
you know that i'll protect you
from all of the obscene
I wonder what you're doing
imagine where you are
there's oceans in between us
but that's not very far

Can you take it all away
can you take it all away
well ya shoved it in my face
this pain you gave to me
Can you take it all away
can you take it all away
well ya shoved it my face

Everyone is changing
there's noone left that's real
to make up your own ending
and let me know just how you feel
cause I am lost without you
I cannot live at all
my whole world surrounds you
I stumble then I crawl

Hoobastank - Crawling in the Dark
See highlighted bits, I see what people do but just can't understand it sometimes, particularly pertinent to body language I think.

Quote:
Show me what it's for
Make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer
Is there something more than what i've been handed?
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer
So when and how will I know?
How much further do I have to go?
How much longer until I finally know?
Because I'm looking and I just can't see what's in front of me
In front of me
Show me what it's for
Make me understand it

I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer
Is there something more than what i've been handed?
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer

Bush - Machinehead
Because I feel like my thinking and acting is a bit robotic or 'machine-like' sometimes so the song fits. Machine head, yeah I got one of those, and I do think it's better than the others 8)

Quote:
Deaf dumb and thirty
Starting to deserve this
Leaning on my conscience wall
Blood is like wine
Unconscious all the time
If I had it all again
I'd change it all

Got a machinehead, better than the rest
Green to red, machinehead
Got a machinehead, s'better than the rest
Green to red, ..yea
I walk from my machine
I walk from my machine

There's a Catherine Wheel album called Happy Days. It's amazing. You can tell how much of an Aspie album it is just from the song titles:

God Inside My Head
Waydown
Little Muscle
Heal
Empty Head
Receive
My Exhibition
Eat My Dust You Insensitive F-ck
Shocking
Love Tips Up
Judy Staring At The Sun
Hole
Fizzy Love
Kill My Soul

The cover artwork features a grown man trapped inside a gigantic baby's cot.

This gigantic link takes you to the Amazon Uk listing:

Buy it.

Nine Inch Nails - ''Every Day Is Exactly The Same''

I believe I can see the future
Cause I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
Then again
That might have been a dream

I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
And I just do what i've been told
I really don't want
Them to come around

Oh no

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no Love here
And there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I can feel their eyes are watching
Incase I lose myself again
Sometimes I think i'm happy here
Sometimes
Yet I still pretend

I can't remember how this got started
But I can tell you
Exactly
How it will end

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no Love here
And there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

I'm writing on a little piece of paper
I'm hoping someday I might find
Well i'll hide it behind something
They wont look behind

I am still inside
A little bit comes bleeding through
I wish this could've been any other way
But I just don't know
I don't know
What else I can do

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no Love here
And there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no Love here
And there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same

Did you know “The Trick is to Keep Breathing” by Garbage, was actually inspired by a book of the same name?

Radiohead, generally. I'm not a fan but I'm sure many of their songs express what a lot of us feel. 'Creep', for example.
