j.d. sumner, one of the very few human contrabasses or basso produndos, was in guiness book of world records for having sung the lowest note in a popular song, namely elvis presley's "way down."
larry hooper [singer on the lawrence welk show, with an exceptionally musical bass voice]
thurl ravenscroft [a marveous singing and speaking voice in the deep bass register, longtime voice of various walt disney park attractions, the "voice of GOD"]

In terms of technique I love Freddie Mercury. He covered so many styles, from rock to disco to opera, with an incredible range & stage presence.
