Hey, what's your music taste like? Feel free to list any songs or post any youtube songs that adequately represent your musical taste. I'm curious if there are any underlying trends in aspergerian music tastes. (Like, maybe there's a trend to like more peaceful songs?)

My AS/NT status is unknown (Though, some indicators seem to suggest I'm psychotic, lol.), and here are a few songs I like.

Radiohead's Creep -

I don't think I have any sort of tendency toward peaceful songs. My favorites are Rhapsody of Fire, Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, and a few other similar speed/epic/symphonic/folk metal bands.

And I like baroque/classical/romantic/showtune music. =P

I am primarily a rock-chick so mostly rock and metal for me, but I do have somewhat eclectic music tastes; rock (stoner, grunge and American primarily), blues, singer-songwriter, pop, hip-hop and classical primarily. I do have a particular like for more American music, those where you can hear the blues roots. I'm also starting to get a taste for jazz after listening to Tatum. I don't really like more 'peaceful' music, other than classical like Chopin and some blues music.

A copy-and-paste from my Facebook profile of some of my favourite artists/bands;
Them Crooked Vultures, Alice in Chains, The Bakerton Group, Clutch, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Jimmy Eat World, Muse, The Company Band, Karma to Burn, Workhorse Movement, Therapy?, Guns N' Roses, The Distillers, Otis Redding, OutKast, Led Zeppelin, Black Stone Cherry, Art Tatum, Tool, Days of the New, Chopin, Corrosion of Conformity, Rollins Band, Janis Joplin, The Smiths, Chris Thomas King, Fu Manchu, SOil, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skunk Anansie, Kyuss, Billy Joel, Martin Sexton, R.E.M., Neil Young, Queens of the Stone Age, Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, Lynard Skynard, Kasabian, Lil Wayne, Queen, Garbage, Son House, Newton Faulkner, AC/DC, Tantric, Killing Joke, Elvis, Ryan Adams, Missy Elliot, Greg Brown, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West

A random selection...with no real relation to what I've just said about my music tastes;

schmaltzy theatrical wurlitzer pipe organ music as heard in a place like Organ Stop Pizza, in mesa AZ. i like older music in general, from the dawn of recorded sound until the 80s or so. i could count on the fingers of one hand with most digits left over, of the 90s->present-day songs that i could truthfully say i enjoyed listening to.

I like, as Rollins would say, good music. I don't know how to describe my taste, because I can find something I like in pretty much any genre.

Are you kidding me? Peaceful music? Lolwat?
I think there aren't any trends at all. I'm a musician that strives for excellence and I always base my musical interests on the level of creativity and skill it took to create the piece. A LOT of people see things differently and choose to listen to lesser music. This doesn't make sense because I would expect a lot of autistic musicians to look at music objectively like I do. Plus I just can't understand how you couldn't like these songs.

It's quite simple. You have your tastes and others have theirs.

In my own opinion those songs are merely shallow dissonence. I cannot meet the emotional needs I seek to fulfill using music so I don't like it. While I may dislike it, you still love it. A clear example of differing tastes. For further example, Sigur Rós is my kind of music. I cannot understand how anyone couldn't love them. Yet there are people who dislike them. People are people. No two are the same.

Sorry, I don't know why but your post irked me. Had to say my piece.

Anything not country, bluegrass, etc. or rap. Everything else I pretty much like.

Tool, Muse, Temptations Within, Nevermore, Staind, Shinedown, 12 Stones are some bands that come to mind.

Yeah, there is NO such thing as Aspie music. Everyone's different. I listen to common mainstream "NT" music as I find that it gives me the most stimulation (I'm a sensory seeker). I like super-energetic music like Lady Gaga's or Ke$ha's. I do appreciate other genres, though, and I have my calmer moods, but calmer music is not my dominant preference.

EDIT: Also, I don't look for the meaning at all. It's just the beats and an energetic enough melody that do it for me. Music is for relaxation and my mind does not process meaning when it's relaxed.
