If you can't find a friend or relative to take you in for a while, have you tried the Salvation Army Shelter? If you don't have a Salvation Army shelter in your area, some churches have facilities, or they have members who will put people up for a while. You can also contact the Red Cross, or your state assistance office to see what they might be able to do for you. If you are able bodied another possibility is to spread the word that you will do house work in exchange for a place to stay.
I had to stay at a Salvation Army shelter once for about a month. Then a relative let me "house sit" a dilapidated fixer upper investment home he had for about 3 months, until my father and step mother managed to find and buy an old trailer home for me in the state where they live. I pay them rent out of my SS disability payments. I am a little over 1/2 an hour away from where they live, but by living separately from them, we are not always driving each other crazy.
Hope my suggestions help.
