This is a tough on because you either have access to the materials through school, or you're a professional artists. As I've mentioned before, I'm back in college finishing my degree and taking a ceramics handbuilding class. I know I'm an artistic dude, I've drawn and written and worked with wood, but this particular medium is blowing my mind. I love it. I've got it all figured out why, but I wont bore you with details lol

Anyone else? Just wondering.....

I was into ceramics back in high school when I lived with my paternal grandmother. Both her and my father were into it. Since then, I just haven't had access to any materials and equipment to do it. I enjoyed it greatly.

I think that is the problem, access to materials and tools......

If I could have a kiln in my backyard I would..

I grew up with Ceramics, as my Grandmother was a well known artist in that area and had a few kilns in her basement studio. She was mostly a doll-maker, but taught classes from her home studio in general ceramics.

I grew up with it since I was a small child, I most likely started doing ceramics before I was 8yrs old at my grandparents house.

It's a neat art form, and I'll teach a class on it when my studios built myself, but if you want a kiln in your yard...just make one. The simple way is to build a viking kiln, I've done pottery while camping. A more permanent solution might be to build a kiln as in this LINK

Backyard ceramics is a growing hobby. If you can build a forge, you can build a kiln, it's really simple.

That is excellent! I wonder how hot it burns and can you fire greenware and glazed pieces. The firing process is something I don't know a lot about. I don't have the space to do that right and might end up blowing myself up lol. Although it doesn't seem too complicated.

I used to take ceramics back in high school, and I absolutely loved it. But I haven't touched clay or a wheel since.

If I could live with my grandmother, I'd be using her kiln all the time and making ceramic items.

Eventually, if I can get through some other things right now that take up my money, I'll get a house, and a kiln is on the list of things to have.

I also would like to get a kiln that can do glass fusing. I know that there are some kilns that are made to do both ceramics and glass fusing and I'd like that.

It's obviously very stimulating with the hands and you get some instant feedback as you create. I'm really into carving textures that look like wood or stone after the clay has dried a bit. I guess it's more like sculpting textures onto pieces. ld sit there all day and just scrape scrape scrape lol. It's like meditating.
