Does anybody listen to christian music?
if so, what bands/artists do you listen to?

You're not the only one. I'm a church musician and accompany church choir as well as play piano in our rhythm section.

Stephen Curtis Chapman, Chris Tomlin, Sarah Reeves, Sarah Groves, Matt Redmon, Mercyme, Point of Grace, Nicole Nordemon. I actually ran into Twila Paris in a coffee shop once! Basically, I like all of it. I can't get ENOUGH Mandisa. I like the traditional stuff, too.

I'm a christian, but there's not a whole lot of christian music I find particularly interesting. Worship music is usually very standardized to suit a congregation (which is simply a practical decision), and the other extremes like 'white metal' are hard to take seriously as theological or spiritual expressions. I am quite fond of DC Talk's 'Jesus Freak' though. Also Sufjan Stevens' music has a lot of Christian themes that reflect on his faith, which I quite like, but I wouldn't label it as christian music. :) Got any recommendations yourself?

You are not the only one, Kaitlyn. I love Christian music, and it was only pretty recently that I started branching out and listening to secular music too.

My long-time favorites are Rich Mullins, Michael Card, and Michael W. Smith.
More recently, I have really enjoyed listening to Jars of Clay, Caedmon's Call, Sara Groves, and Jennifer Knapp.

(Edited to add examples in case anyone was curious. I chose them for the songs, not the videos, some of which are amusingly dated or cheesy.)

Thanks for starting this thread. I really love listening to my favorite music, but I don't often talk about it to peers because people's tastes in music tend to be so different.

Oh, and happy Easter!

I'm not religious but I really like gregorian chant music which counts as christian music because catholic monks sang it.

I don't consider myself religious, but I do enjoy religious-themed Christmas music. I particularly enjoy this song a lot:

I love Gregorian Chants, too -- they're so beautiful. I particularly love songs sung by female choirs in latin. Ubi Caritas is my favorite. Here's a link to a video with Connie Dover (Celtic Spirit) performing the same song:

I don't know much about pop music that can be classed as Christian, but since Gregorian chants have already been mentioned, I would just like to namedrop Hildegard of Bingen. She was an 11th century nun, and one of her songs (Vision) was recently released as a "remix". It could have been awful, but I think it works well. Here it is:

I would also recommend checking out some of Thomas Tallis's (16th century) choral music.
(I do hope nobody decides to remix any of that.)

That's one of my favourite songs! I listen to it loads and I've been trying to find it on youtube for ages.
