Not really a genre of music I've been interested in before, but lately the stresses of life and my temper have convinced me I should try to listen to music that will help me relax. But I'm not really sure where to begin - could use some pointers to some decent stuff. The type of stuff I'm thinking of is probably Asian or Indian in origin - might have instruments like sitars. Basically, the type of stuff they'd play if you walked into a shop where they sell incense. Can anyone point me to some CD's or artists etc?

have you got spotify?
If so, I could put together a playlist for you :)

But Steven Halpern might be an exelent place to start :)

I can also recommend Skylon by Ott.. not a "new age" relaxations CD, but it is by far the album that relaxes me the most..

I haven't used it in eons but I have Spotify - at least the free version of it - do playlists even work with the free versions?

This is one of my most relaxing pieces: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMOp-rB9XgA

This is one of my favorite guitarists playing an old song by Dowland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oTfzpb0 ... el&list=UL

And lastly, a short song by Schubert: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibfOQwF42Ag

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for, but I can't resist a shameless classical plug where I can fit it in :D .

I used to enjoy New Agey music such as Enya, or Gregorian chanting. Nowadays, I'll play kirtan such as Ram Dass. The repetition can be irritating at first, but the idea is to fall into a more meditative state. It's great for walking. :D

I like Andrea Bocelli too, but that's my cooking music...

i don't think it does :( but like I said, anything with Steven Halpern is a good choice for the kind of thing you are looking for
