Let's say that you have a blog, not a personal blog but a topical blog, to which several people are subscribed. You look back at one of your posts and realize that you have written something UNBELIEVABLY stupid and unfactual. It's such a stupid mistake, you have difficulty believing that you wrote it, and can't remember writing it. You share blog links with people who are very knowledgeable in the topic, and some of them read your blog. You know that if they read it they will think that you are a moron because you've messed up on such a basic fact, but you've posted it some time ago and some of them have probably already read it, so somebody may notice if you try to just quietly delete the whole blog post. You don't want future readers to read it. You can't simply delete a sentence or two, because a large chunk of your post presents an argument based on the incorrect fact, and wouldn't make sense if you took that part out.

What do you do to fix the situation, if anything?

You could delete it and if anyone questions it you could blame it on server/system error or say you did it by accident. If you use system error you won't be lying, just not letting on that its your personal thinking system that errored not the electronic on. Can you maybe go back and edit the post to make it better. Thats the best I have for you.

Write a new blog post restating what you should have written the first time (or you're new information).

Cut out the offending statements and leave behind an "edited" comment stating what you did, and link to the new post.

Make it obvious, and simply correct you're mistake in a new post.

Write a new blog stating that you were just looking back and found that post, you can;t believe it was hacked, you don't know how that got there and you are so sorry for any confusion. Deny any and all knowledge of it and apologize.

I just quietly delete embarrassing posts. Probably should delete a few more.

I would write a new blog post quoting the first one and explaining your mistake. Everybody makes mistakes, people with empathize with you if you are honest about it. They will like you more. Deleting stuff that people have already read can make you look deceptive, even though in this case you have every right to do it.

I agree with wozoree. Alternatively, just quietly delete it.
