Any Reason users out there? Lets share creations!! !
I have a passion for creating new devices in reason. I managed to create a granular delay by patching together delay units line mixers and a sound source. Im also perfecting a new fm synth which can produce some startlingly unique sounds I created by threading several thors together. Reason is probably one of the best DAWS for people with aspergers due to the wiring and routing system. The fun ive had

Dude…you need Reaktor.
I LOVE Reason, btw. I've really enjoyed the sound design possibilities with Reason. Thor is a lot of fun. When I first got into programming Thor, I started out attempting to recreate as closely as possible the factory presets of the Yamaha DX7. I never finished all of them, but I got a lot done. I've been meaning to get back to it, but I've got all these other projects I'm working on now.
You might find this interesting, though: I'm mostly between my Korg X50 and my Synclavier right now. I'm doing some experimental, slow tempo, atonal, ambient music right now and when I'm away from my Synclavier, I'll imitate the sounds on the X50 just to get an idea of what it will be like on the Synclavier. What I eventually want to do is sample all my FM sounds from the Synclavier and come up with a NN-XT version. I've already made a couple of Reaktor ensembles with the Synclavier--nothing fancy--so I could have a tweakable multi-timbral sampler to use in Finale. Shortly after that I started experiencing catastrophic computer crashes, so I've had to cease all my heavy-duty sound design efforts in favor of less taxing (on the system) composition work.
Still have all my old Reason sounds, though! It's a load of fun. How's the current version (I assume you've got the current one)? I still have v4, which is NICE, but some of the new synths they've come out with look really impressive. PARSEC looks like it could give Alchemy a run for its money! I used to run Cameleon 5000, which was the predecessor of Alchemy, and after a while all it did was give me a headache. I've been wanting Alchemy ever since I first heard about it. I gave up on additive soft synths after I got my Synclav. But they all serve their purpose (who can compete with vintage FM, additive, AND resynthesis?). I would really have a tough time if I had to choose between PARSEC and Alchemy, and the only reason I might choose Alchemy over PARSEC is the fact I could open PARSEC in Logic or Ableton. I don't mind hosting Reason and using PARSEC anyway--I'm just too lazy to take the extra step to host Reason in Logic. That could, of course, change given the right circumstances. I think I'd like it better hearing from someone with actual exposure to it before I sink money into anything.
No im stillplugging away at reason 5 due to the fact that 6 and 7 are uncrackable - codemeter hasndt been cracked for 7 years . When I first heard you refer to PARSEC assumed that you were mistaken lool never heard of it. An internet search revealed the error of my ways. What.a.beautifull.looking.synth. It looks utterly amazing. Spectral synthesis can allow you to create a sound of infinite complexity and detail because you can reconstruct the spectral properties of a sound in all it glory.
long time reason user here use it in rewire mode with ableton live, and use reason mainly as a modular synth
I have some wicked and weird patches in storage I'd love to share.
I use reason 7 in demo mode actually, since I use Live for sequencing and never felt the need to buy it.. probably should since the rack extensions offers some pretty awesome features (check out AMMO)
Here are some videos I made of some patches

aha amazing stuff! I'd love to share thor routing ideas. Thor is possibly the most versatile synth ive ever used to the point where I find that I can construct entire songs in any conceivable style with just thor. Ive patched thor modules together to create utterly unique fm synths. For example
Thor 1 audio output to combinator (from devices)
mod matrix:audio input 1 ----- Filter 3 FM (Make sure theres a filter there) or any of the oscillators
Audio input 2 " " (to put it in stereo)
Thor 2 audio output to thor 1
Same as above
Thor 3 audio output to thor 2
This creates an fm synth. You could route thor 3 straight to thor 2 and then thor 2 to thor 3 or use any combination in order to create different modulation routings.
I love patcing malstrom into thor too as it has the most interesting lfo patterns ive ever seen haha with the possibility tocreate an infinite array of complex oscillations using the second Mod B to alter Mod A
Its also possible to access better amplitude modulation by patching thor into malstrom. The only thing that thor cant do is spectral synthesis and sound modelling a la sculpture but that hasnt stopped me creating ultra realistic sounds using it.
Oh also try and patch together 8 different thors and passing the output of thor 8 through all the different thors subjecting it to various modulations. Some mindboggling sounds can be accessed that way. I think it might be possible to construct a primitive additive synth by applying this technique to a sine wave hmmmm brb!! !! !

y computer is lagging like sloth itself so I cant watch the videos properly but glitchadelic looks like your using the vocoder as a filter. At least I see only one sound source so theres no mod carrier relationship - unless you're using thors audio output to modulate itself which can really thicken a sound by the way. Great for phattening up kick drums XD
omg, that is some serious patching I have never really gone that far in planning and executing said plan, my aproach is more like that of a archaeologist, I dig and I patch and I clap my hands in joy at what I find, then I record it for later use and continue my explorations
Totaly agree with you on maelstrom, there are some seriously weird and alien frequencies waiting to be unfolded from that little "machine"

Lol my obsession with synth sounds devices stems from my adhd I think. I can never stick to a project long enough to bring it to completion (unless its coursework or a collaboration).
Oh I meant to mention I use ableton live too I just dont have a computer thats nearly powerful enough to run it without my computer being seized by glitches

I can't understand anything in this thread, but I like what you've created.

I had that kind of problem in the past, but I realised I was trying too hard to make "other peoples" music, rather than my own. Not saying it was a easy road, gaining firstly knowlage of what was the problem, secondly gaining the confidence to try to express myself and thirdly.. to just do it
but the result is in my book, mindboggelingly awesome.. and I may very well be one of the few people that feels that way about the sounds/music I make, but that is okey, because I mostly make it for myself and I totaly love it
I still fiddle around with projects that I have no intention to complete, they are just for fun, and often I find little gems of sound that I collect for future explorations

I can totally relate.
My problem has been that money would dry up in other areas of my musical life, so I'd get desperately demotivated and make up my mind to focus squarely on my own music for a change…only for things to pick up elsewhere, money would be good for a while, and whatever I was working on would get abandoned.
After my most recent bout of discouragement, I've decided I'm DONE…I've had ENOUGH.
I decided to get busy on probably the easiest thing any musician can do to kick off a career in arranging, recording, composing, and performing: I'm recording a Christmas album that I'm planning to release next year.
No sooner than had I made my resolve to record a Christmas album that I got a call to play for a ladies' luncheon at a church in town, and not the one I work for. Rather than do my usual fall-back thing and just practice Christmas carols on the piano, I got busy with sequencing on the Korg X50 and the Synclavier. I'm doing 3 tracks with clarinet, 2 tracks with solo handbells, and hopefully 4 tracks with piano (I'm thinking about doing at least one of those on the ReBirth app for iPad--maybe, maybe not), and that will be half my set. The rest of the time will be just piano and no electronics. Having the impetus of a gig playing many of the tunes I intended to record for an album has already put me way ahead of schedule.
I take it as a good sign, and there's a good possibility if this gig works out well I can throw a little concert this year closer to Christmas.
The point being that depending on how bad you want to get something done, you just have to make it top priority and focus every activity on making it happen. Writing it down, drawing charts, etc., is a good way to set goals and realize some of those sound design ideas you really think could take you places. I can't say I share binaryodes' enthusiasm for creating an additive synth in Reason (why not use a filtered saw osc. for the base sound and use sine waves to emphasize specific harmonics? You can knock out your first 32 harmonic coefficients that way), but I'm impressed that he's actively setting it up visually in such a way to smooth out the workflow. The more you plan out, the more you'll actually finish. The more you finish, they more you'll be motivated to keep working.

I like that idea it'd be amazing to bring more audiorealism to the sounds - they say violin strings produce sawtooth due to the movement of the bow against the string. I think sawtooths are a complete harmonic series as well. Is the 32 coefficients caused by the filtration method?
I think everyone is mistaken regarding the blueprints ive written up. Theyre representations not plans. I tend to pause - think - do. If I have a fiendishly complex plan then yes but otherwise Reason seems to merit a more hands on approach. But yes I have the additive synth up and running if anyone's interested
correction I have a working beta version XD
