So what does that even mean? When I used to play live I was told to match the mood of the people gathered. I just see a row of blank faces personally.. Of course some may have obvious signs of emotion... admiration perhaps, but I have no conception of a gestalt collective consciousness. Is this some kind of 6th sense NT's have?

I would think it comes into play after the first song, when you might get a hint of how much they hate your stuff. But yes, it sounds like NT skills to me.

I'm a Jazz vocalist (for the most part, I sing Jazz. Not by trade, however) The few times that I have performed at a jazz club, or any other venue, for that matter, I (or the music) have set the tone. I have not yet played, where I could see anything other than anticipation exuded by the audience. Either that, or chit-chat between audience members

I played Europe for 12 years and there are many more appreciative ears there. Here in America, seems people want to hear what they hear on the radio.
