I hate genres and the title shows the fundamental flaw produced by lumping an entire art form into a lumpen category. Anyway is anyone else into the "new" brand of experimental hip hop thats emerging with the nexus being LA. Artists like daedelus Flying Lotus and Ammoncontact have all been producing a freewheeling visceral cerebral interpretation of hip hop. In many ways it brings the art back to the era of Gil Scot Heron when it was a fusion of funk and jazz and when the derivation was clear.

Its rare to find anyone who is into these artists as I think that the label hip hop instantly deters people. To be honest it has very little to do with hip hop and if you were compelled to categorise it - its far closer to jazz.. Herbie Hancock himself is actually working on an electronica/jazz album with Flying Lotus. So for any jazzcats among you theres your commendation now go an listen!!

Yes and I have been for years. I saw Daedelus a couple years ago, Aesop Rock twice in the same venue, MF DOOM at Red Rocks, and my collection is about to pass 100gb.

Here's someone I discovered a couple years ago. Several years ago, Onra traveled to Vietnam and acquired some Vietnamese and Chinese vinyl records. He returned home (to France) and made an album in which he "remixed" a lot of this stuff.
