Electric or acoustic? See if you can get generic cheap ones at Mel Bay. You can also try to get some cheap off ebay.

My wife uses Mel Bay, it's an old and reliable company.

Well, i don't know if there are specific types of strings that I have to get( aside from obviously that it's steel due to having an electric guitar)

I'll ask my wife when she get's back from the store. She should know as she play's both.

Edit: Here's a Link it's only $6.59 for the set. They also have extra-light string's Link for the same price.

It should have one of each string needed (6 total) per package.

Many music stores will sell them one at a time for about .75 cents. Cheap sets can start at about $4. No big deal, how are you tuning it, by ear or with a electronic pitch reader? The latter is very helpful.

Ive been there man. A wah pedal or a whammy pedal is a good way to change your pitch whenever you need it. You might find a cheap used one on ebay or in the bargain bin at your local music store. :D
