Radar Love by Golden Earring
Highway Star by Deep Purple (I LOVE that song!)
Panama by Van Halen
Red Barchetta by Rush

If you're driving at night, (Which I prefer to do on my roadtrips) you might want something mellower:

I'll play an entire CD of cool spacey music that lets the road just melt away:

Portishead
Sigur Ros
Orbital

Although I have XM in the car now, so it's easy to find a station to fit any mood. I like the comedy channels, and listen to old comedy routines like Bill Cosby, Steven Wright, etc...

It's not a road trip unless there's Fu Manchu.

I'd suggest "Drive" or "King of the Road." Hell, put 'em both. I'm going to see them in concert in a month :D .

It's time to see the world
it's time to kiss a girl
it's time to cross the wild meridian!

Grab your bag and take a chance
time to learn a Cajun dance
kid, you're gonna see the mornin' sun

::bumbumbum::

on the Pascagoula Run...

For a night time/predawn morning journey out of Manhattan via the Tunnel into northern New Jersey, I would recommend Copshootcop's Consumer Revolt CD. --It's the perfect musical accompaniment to the industrial wasteland of of that area.
