Balta and Patrik started to work together on coordinating the evacuation of civilians via underground passageways, and allocating troops and equipment in the defense of the city. Patrik knew the city of Myza very well, and was able to tell her all the hidden passageways known to be used by the cities underground society. Balta on the other hand knew her division just as well, she understood what her comrades were capable of, and knew what they were not.

This would still pose a challenge for her though, usually FROST Company was used to going behind the lines and attacking, not staying stationary and holding a defensive line. Also Balta was at heart a good soldier, yet untested as a mastermind for the defense of a city. This would be a test that she would have to be willing to take, even if she did not have any prior experience at doing so.

“This was always Field Leader Trotsky's sort of thing.” Balta said to herself in her head while studying a map of the city.

“There are hidden underground passageways here, here, and here.” Patrik told her while pointing to them on a map.

“Most of them have been used to smuggle citizens from West Barunia into Myza. While I do not think the West Barunians will be very pleased having a mass exodus of Myzans into their territory, they will almost certainly be treated far better than these Braxxians will.” Patrik told her while pointing to locations in the city.

“Where would the Braxxians be most likely to enter the city?” Balta asked.

“Well assuming they do not drop soldiers right on top of us from the sky, there are the border entrances.” Patrik replied to her.

“We shall reinforce these areas while diverting forces from the border near central Barunia.” Balta told him telepathically.

“What about the Cavarians?” Balta asked.

“They probably are engaged with the Braxxians as well. Most of the ones stationed on Turanta are male, which means they will not be as strong as a normal Cavarian females.” Patrik told her.

“They will have to do, if we can make contact with them then we can unite our forces to bolster a more solid defense.” Balta replied to him again.

“What about Samantha? If we can make contact with her then she could be a monumental boon to our defense as well.” Balta asked Patrik.

“She is probably fending off the Braxxians in Emerus as we speak. We cannot allocate her from there. If she leaves, then Emerus might fall.” Patrik warned Balta.

“I see your point. Then I guess we are on our own for now. “Balta replied back to him.

“We need to get back to the command bunker eventually in order to send out a distress signal to the AMSA.” Balta told Patrik

“If the bunker is still standing that is.” Patrik replied to her cynically.

“We cannot give up hope. Lord Deraj always says that a mind filled with doubt is not a mind fit for battle.”Balta told Patrik remembering one of their leaders' quotes.

“You're right. If we have any hope of keeping my planet safe we have to act accordingly.” Patrik told her.

“Agreed, now for my part. We need to bolster a sound defensive line with the troops we have. Most of the forces stationed in Myza are patrols and support crew, so we lack any decent AA or Raven support.”Balta told Patrik

(Note: AA stands for anti-air, or anti-aircraft weaponry.)

“Luckily Nevell Scott was kind enough to us here to keep a couple of their Cheesemaker AA guns here to help protect this side of Turanta in case of this sort of attack. They can provide a well enough AA defense against their aircraft. “Balta told Patrik

“Nevell Scott would be instrumental in this battle, if we can make contact with them as well that is. With their armaments it could help turn the tide of...”Patrik said before pausing

“Oh no...”Patrik said as he just had a revelation.

“What is it Patrik?” Balta asked her comrade telepathically

“The TDB. They may be after it.”

“What is the TDB?” Balta asked

“The Turantan Database. If they get their hands on it they will have access to almost unlimited knowledge of our planet.” Patrik told her.

“Then we can't let that happen.” Balta told him

“It is on the other side of Turan-“

Just then an AMA soldier busted into the room. He was panting heavily and holding unto the side of the door to support his body while he was semi-leaning over. Normally this would be considered an intrusion, but the soldier looked like he had obtained valuable knowledge he needed to inform Balta with.

“*Pant*..Ma’am..*Pant*..” The soldier said trying to catch his breath.
“What is it trooper?” Balta asked him telepathically.

“S-Sgt Marcus…He’s been captured!” the weary soldier said.

With this Balta proceeded to place her palm thoroughly against her face. Patrik on the other hand started to snicker, even in this tense time the fact that Marcus got himself captured again was a bit comical, if not dark comedy.

“Do they Braxxians have him?” Balta asked frustrated at Marcus.

“No ma’am. It is the major…” the soldier said finally regaining his composure.

“What would Fenris need with Marcus? Also why now of all times?” Patrik thought in his head.

“Do you have any leads of where the major is heading?” Balta asked the soldier.

“Right here ma’am.” The soldier replied.

“He must want something from us. Tell the others to stand down and let him come. “Balta ordered to the trooper.

“Yes ma’am.” The soldier said before heading outside again.

Later Major Fenris did indeed walk over to the members of FROST. He had a serious face on and had a gun to the back of Marcus’s head. His reputation for never missing a shot was very widely known, so neither Marcus nor the rest of the company tried anything to stop him. Balta and Patrik knew this was not his style to be out in the open, so he must have had very good reason to go and converse with his former foes.

“Where is the she-wolf? I must speak to her.” Fenris called out in an uncharacteristically loud tone.

“I am here major. “ Balta said walking towards her with Patrik.

“I will keep your puppet in my sights until we finish talking, then I will release him if all goes well. Do not try to rescue him. My accuracy with a pistol is just a well as my rifle. “The major replied to Balta and his former comrade Patrik.

“What do you want major?” Asked Balta.

“I want answers colonel. “ Fenris replied to her.

“What are those things doing in my country? Did your wretched army have anything to do with this?” Fenris asked very sternly.

“We are just as lost about what they are, or why they came here as you are major.” Balta told him honestly with her usual emotionless face on.

“I see, what about your space forces, or your leader that trickster? Do they know what these invaders are?” Fenris asked referring to the AMSA and the AMA leader Deraj Ivan Bradanska.

“Perhaps, but we have not heard any contact from them since their abrupt arrival. They have been jamming our communications since the invasion. “Patrik told him

“I see. Well Zero I am going to hate what I am about to do, but desperate times cause for desperate measures.” Fenris said.
Fenris lowered his gun and put it back into his holster. He then pointed for Marcus to walk over to them. Marcus did so without trying anything funny.

“As much as I hate to do this, I think a temporary truce is in order. This threat is a danger to my whole world, and if we are to survive we will need to unite to drive off these invaders.” Fenris said sternly.

“I concur.” Balta said.
Balta turned to face Patrik and nodded. Patrik then ordered all the AMA forces to lower their arms. Every AMA soldier did so at once.

“Come major. We have much to discuss.” Balta said to him while keeping a close eye on the major. She knew that while one to know to full dire extent of the situation, he is still a crafty one. Always planning three steps ahead.
