I’m studying the links between music and autism and created a survey that will give you feedback about your musical preference scores. Feel free to share your results!

I tried to include music from a variety of styles, but post any examples that you think I may have missed.

Here’s a link to the survey: http://ppsisfaculty.qualtrics.com/SE/?S ... ZITF38PiUl

Hope you enjoy!

I scored "high" or "very high" in every category.

That's interesting! It must mean that you have a very strong liking for music in general, and that you like a large and diverse range of styles. What were your highest and lowest scores in?

I didn't really care for any of those samples.

Needs more jazz, psychedelia and less common chord progressions.

I also like the fact that there are 9 options to choose from. Usually there are no more than 5 options. I like that there are 9 because I like classifications and then I can really classify them in a detailed grading system. Well done. Is it standard or thought specially for this test?

also it was clever to ask gender, age, ethnicity etc in the end, some studies ask before the test but it may influenciate the results

it would be great if there were an option to send the result to our emails. also if we could see which was our answer to each music name because I would like to hear the ones I liked again but I don't know which they were.

My results:
mellow - very high
unpretentious - very high
sophisticated - very high
intense - high
contemporary - low (boring and/or annoying)

in this test I discovered I really like avant-garde classical music and I didn't even know it :) thanks

now that I did it already can you send me a pm telling me what you think is going to be the research result? You probably have an hypothesis

This is a very interesting survey.

My results:

Mellow - High - 27

Unpretentious - High - 25

Sophisticated - Low - 21

Intense - Very High - 41

Contemporary - Low - 16

I think this means I'm a metal head,

Mellow - High
Unpretentious - Average
Sophisticated - High
Intense - Average
Contemporary - Average

Huh. I managed to never score a Very High. I guess I'm just picky.

I'm also interested in learning the results of this test. Please keep us posted.

My results:
Mellow music: 38 (Very high)
Unpretentious music 25 (High)
Sophisticated music: 34 (Very high)
Intense music: 38 (Very high)
Contemporary music: 19 (Average)

As much as I consider myself a metalhead, I think my music taste is pretty varied. Contemporary music wears on my nerves, though.

I'd say that's more the profile of a punk than a metal head, think most metal heads would score higher with sophisticated and a bit lower with unpretentious.

Anyway, here is mine:

Here are your musical preference scores:

Your preference score for Mellow music: 35 - Very High

Your preference score for Unpretentious music 31 - Very High

Your preference score for Sophisticated music: 32 - Very High

Your preference score for Intense music: 42 - Very High

Your preference score for Contemporary music: 23 - High

Apparently, I like music.

Mellow music: 30 (High)
Unpretentious music 32 (Very High)
Sophisticated music: 34 (Very High)
Intense music: 25 (Low)
Contemporary music: 14 (Low)

I think more factors should be accounted for, such as preferences induced by sensory sensitivities, rhythm/repetitiveness.

Yes, this would be neat. I almost didn't complete it because it was giving me a headache and literally hurting my ears. And rhythm is very important to me. I naturally dislike music with words also, because it brings me away from the music while not understanding the words.

My results:

Your preference score for Mellow music: 29 (high)

Your preference score for Unpretentious music 11 (low)

Your preference score for Sophisticated music: 34 (very high)

Your preference score for Intense music: 16 (very low)

Your preference score for Contemporary music: 12 (very low)
