I'm a metal fan, but I wouldn't call myself an outright "metalhead". My tastes in metal are all over the map, from "poser" stuff like KoRn, to more obscure stuff like Cryptopsy and Acid Bath. My overall favorite metal band though is probably Metallica, since they have a large catalog of awesome work in all sorts of genres and subgenres. I mean, how many other bands can you name have dabbled with thrash, nu-metal, symphonic metal, progressive metal, hard rock, groove metal, hardcore punk covers, NWOBHM-influenced metal, blues rock, and even a few ballads and a country song? :P

I'm kind of old school so the metal bands I like are Metallica, Judas Priest, System Of A Down and Def Leppard.

I still like KoRn, although I'm a far bigger fan of System of a Down (damn it Serj...), Iron Maiden's fun sometimes although I'll accept the poser vibes and admit I like Hammerfall a bit more. I don't always sympathize with his outlook but David Dramian of Disturbed fame is pretty brilliant. Tool & A Perfect Circle are pretty freaking great, and Maynard Keenan makes wicked awesome wine (I still gotta try his reds)! I'd really like to see God Forbid as well. Dethklok are gods, as is Brendan Small. Beer metal like Korpiklanni can be amusing too. I saw the final truly Ozzy-ful Ozzfest in Colorado at Fiddler's Green when I was definitely way too young but probably not, with GWAR (rest in pieces you crazy f***s) and In This Moment (AMAZING vocals). Cthonic was also really fun. Screamo's good occasionally but I mostly just think it's good mixing fodder...

:skull: :rambo:  :pirat: :viking: :dj:
Overall however, I'm primarily just a funky honky who enjoys absurdly loud things, musical & otherwise.

I'm listening to Slayer's album "Diabolus in Musica", after seeing all of the comparisons that have been drawn between it and Metallica's "St. Anger". It's actually a pretty decent album. :D

I'd be a Metallica fan myself if not for Lars Ullrich and his dumbass mountains of cocaine...

Lars Ulrich is the most useless member of Metallica. :P I love Metallica, but not Lars Ulrich.

I'm a metal fan, but I'm not really a fan of the brutal stuff. I don't really like death much except for melodeath and some techdeath bands. I like the instrumentation in the atmospheric and melodic varieties of black metal, but I hate the vocals. I also like some industrial metal, but mainly the more alternative rather than the trashier stuff. I like some thrash metal, but it's not my favorite.

I listen to pretty much all sorts of metal, I am a fan of music like the black dahlia murder, emmure, marilyn manson, slipknot, sworn in, upon a burning body, winds of plague, behemoth, in this moment, every time i die, the dillinger escape plan, cattle decapitation, carnifex, the devil wears prada, arsonists get all the girls. I really just enjoy listening to the heaviness and aggressive energy of music. Metal helps me deal with angst.

If you ever want to hear some crazy br00tal s**t, check out Whourkr. XD They play a genre known as "cyber noisegrind", so basically you can think of it as a combination of grindcore, noise music, and industrial death metal. Check it out:

Or if you just want loud, incredibly distorted noise, I highly recommend Merzbow.

The Youtube versions of these songs are MUCH quieter than the MP3/FLAC versions I have in my library. If you ever download these or buy the actual CDs, be warned, you could probably blow your speakers quite easily. XD In fact "I Lead You Towards Glorious Times" holds the record for being the loudest recording ever put on a CD.

Here comes a doozy!

I present to you Devourment. They're the first band that comes to my mind when the word 'brutal' pops into my head. They are one of the first bands to play an especially catchy form of brutal death metal called 'slam', which is a barrel of breakdowns and blasts, plus some of the most guttural vocals ever laid to tape. I will admit that they're a bit of a hard listen at first (the poor production quality on their earlier releases has something to do with this) but if you're willing to get past this, you're in for quite a fun ride!

Up next is Darkspace. One of the most unique acts in the black metal underground, and in metal overall! Darkspace is a rarity by the means of their being a black metal band that doesn't make any mention of Satan, burning down churches, misanthropy or anything of the like in their lyrics. In fact, more often than not, their songs are instrumentals. Their music is ambient, atmospheric, totally evil-sounding, lo-fi and and at times can be quite brutal. Subtle but ever-present keyboard lines characterize and intensify the already heavy music. All of their material is amazing, but this track, in my opinion at least, is their absolute magnum opus. Skip to 6:50 for an absolute interstellar conquest.

Here is Sweden's own Shining. (Note: not 'The' Shining, just 'Shining'. Also, I make the note of them being from Sweden to distinguish them from another Shining, a Norwegian progressive jazz outfit.) They are the pioneers of a particularly 'kvlt' branch of black metal known as Depressive Suicidal Black Metal, or DSBM. However, only their earlier material, in my opinion, (the first three albums) can be classified as such. From their fourth album onward, they made a name for themselves thanks to their long-winded and multi-layered brand of progressive black metal. This music is compelling, melancholic, heavy and often has acoustic portions. Make no mistake, Niklas Kvarforth is a demented genius, and is undeniably the driving creative force behind Shining. Here's one of my favorite songs of theirs.

And now for something completely different, and not even metal at all: Arditi. Arditi is perhaps most well known for their two collaboration tracks with the Swedish black metal band Marduk. Although I enjoy those songs, I find that they're a poor representative of the kind of music that Arditi plays: martial industrial. This is a highly varied and very underground movement which draws creative influence from classical, ambient war marches, industrial, choral and acoustic. (In all honesty, they could easily pass for the soundtrack to a war movie.) Arditi crafts a compelling and positively militant breed of music that I consider to be brutal (and, in turn, am presenting to you) because it is indeed so in spirit and essence. This track of theirs has groovy and terrifying percussion, which I revel in.

Hope you enjoy!
