Industrial music is a bit of an obsession for me. :D I love listening to bands and artists like Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, Rammstein, Chemlab, VNV Nation, Front 242, and 16 Volt, among others. While my tastes tend to veer more towards 90s industrial rock and post-industrial, I've also been getting into a lot of the earlier, more experimental 80s stuff lately.

Anyway, here's a classic Ministry track:

I don't really identify with industrial music or as a "rivethead". But yes, I do like some.

I really like techno like hardcore and hardstyle so some of the electro-industrial and EBM genres are pretty neat. There's a lot of names it seems like, like EBM, or Electro-Industrial, or "Dark Electro" or "Aggrotech" or Futurepop, and a lot of other names and things. But I like pretty much all of them.

I always thought that Technocracy by Psyborg Corp. was a pretty neat Cyberpunk song.

And it's kind of neat how their songs tell a story. I also like transhumanism so those themes in aggrotech and electro-industrial are pretty nifty.

It also seems like Grendel has become more and more techno. And this XP8 remix of Grendel's Out of My Mind song is pretty neat.

I tend to like more happy and euphoric types of music. Rather than aggressive stuff, but I'm pretty open minded. I can see how it's cathartic for people when they feel angry. I think it's really neat to see some of my favourite genres like techno mix over with Industrial.

And I especially like some of the Industrial Folk music. Like Current93, Nature and Organization, and In Gowan Ring. And the various projects of David Tibet. They make so many pretty ballads and folk songs, sometimes.

I've always loved this song about cats, and I believe it's also about Louis Wain?

It's one of the neatest songs about kittens I've ever heard.

*Raises hand* I was way into Industrial in high school, still enjoy the hell out of it. Have you listened to Einsturzende Neubauten? Kraftwerk? Those are original, experimantal industrial bands. Download and Haujobb are good later style.

Psalm 69 is my favorite Ministry album, by the way. :) @ Rainbowfairy, good links.

Kraftwerk is amazing, though I wouldn't quite call them industrial. ;) They are definitely a pioneering electronic music group, however.

I've heard of Einsturzende Neubauten, and I know that they were actually a major influence for Depeche Mode back in the mid 80s, though I haven't listened to much of their material. Have any recommendations? I'm up for anything. :D

I'll have to check out the other two bands you mentioned as well. Btw, didn't Download start off as a side project of one of the members of Skinny Puppy?

Psalm 69 is an absolute classic album. It amazes me to this day how they managed to achieve an industrial "sound" on that album without using any synths. Playing industrial without synths is kind of like playing metal without guitars; it's hard to do and some would say that it's virtually impossible, but when it's done well the results can be AWESOME. :D

Here's another classic track, this time from Skinny Puppy! This is actually the song that made me fall in love with them in the first place.

I wouldn't call myself I rivethead, but post-industrial music like EBM is some of my favorite electronic music, and I like industrial metal. Aside from the classics like NIN and Rammstein, one of my favorite industrial metal musicians is an independent musicians who goes by Tarby. He is known for blending industrial metal with progressive rock as well as some classic rock and grunge. His first album is one of my favorite albums ever, and his second album should be coming out soon, I'm hyped.

Awesome stuff! It kind of reminds me of a cross between Filter and 16 Volt.

Speaking of 16 Volt, this is a great song by them, which I've probably already posted in a few other threads. XD

Well, Kraftwerk IS considered early experimental industrial, but I also think is more experimental ambient music. for the Neubauten, my favorite albums are End Neu, and Haus Der Luge(House of Lies, translated).......

Funnily enough, I don't think he's actually influenced by either of those bands. His main industrial influence is Nine Inch Nails (Devin Townsend might be a larger influence, but his music is more progressive metal than industrial), aside from NIN his industrial metal base is mainly just influence from a range of metal bands and EDM projects. I could see Filter as like NIN and Tarby they also mix industrial metal with alternative rock, and 16 Volt has sort of that dark ambience heard in this song (that song is cool BTW, the screams remind me of Trent Reznor and the riffs remind me of Rammstein, but it has a nice unique sound). You can hear the NIN influence easier in Petrified as it's strucuture is the same as Wish.

He also covered "Sunspots" on that album. On his upcoming album, this demo is heavily influenced by NIN.

Here is another one of my favorite songs of his:

I was actually wondering if "Sunspots" was a NIN cover. It's awesome that he covered it, since I love that song and I think it's criminally underrated. Apparently NIN has never performed it live, aside from a rehearsal. :(

(slight warning for language, there's literally one f-bomb)

Here's another underrated song that I love. It's a Front Line Assembly remix of a Fear Factory track.

Nice to discover this thread! I've found myself listening to VNV Nation recently, among other things, but I'm still pretty new to the genre.

I like some of VNV Nation's early stuff, though I'm not so crazy about their newer material. The album "Praise the Fallen" is a favorite of mine, and "Empires" is pretty decent as well. It still amazes me that "Empires" was made with literally one synthesizer and two samplers, though I wouldn't be surprised if a DAW of some sort was used to help things.

I love how epic the lyrics are on this track. Really helps to set the tone for the rest of the album.

This song has an awesome driving beat, and the chorus just sounds so militaristic and BRUTAL. :D

People often talk about how they feel like slaying dragons and such when they listen to power metal, I get a similar feeling from listening to "Praise the Fallen". For being so futuristic sounding musically, the lyrics just go perfectly with a sort of medieval warfare scenario.

Got the deluxe version of Device for my birthday. I really like their cover of Wish, though I think Trent Reznor's vocals suit the song a bit better than Draiman's.

I like a lot of industrial sort of music, I lean towards the darker stuff usually.

That's an awesome cover! I'm actually quite surprised by how well they pulled it off. I do agree though, it is missing a bit of something without Trent Reznor's screaming.

On that note, I've always found Linkin Park's cover to be an interesting interpretation. It's less "industrial" than the NIN or Device versions, but it definitely keeps the aggression of the original. I only wish there was a studio version or at least a higher quality upload.

Chester definitely has a penchant for screaming. :P
