they don't even have to be depressing; (relatively) up-beat break-up songs do exist. for example, here's one of my favourites, to get the ball rolling:

Technically it's not a breakup song, but I'm also pretty sure the relationship is over on the last line.

indeed.

he writes many wonderfully frank songs about break-ups and other of life's various heartbreaks and absurdities. i dig people who are brave enough to be honest in their music; it's not easy to do well, and this band manages it quite splendidly.

Yeah I so love when somebody takes something usual like a breakup song or even a happy love song, but makes it different and let's it have something to say.

I do not like break up songs. I guess my favorite break up song would be this one:
