I used to be quite the bookworm when I was younger. While most kids would talk and play with each other, I would be alone with a good book. (It wouldn't be a classic or a Newbury or a non-fiction, but it would still be a book.) However, at the start of middle school, I lost interest in reading, and I think that had a negative impact on my life. It took me forever to finish reading assignments because I hadn't learned to read quickly enough. I tried taking two speed-reading classes, but they had little impact on me because I didn't care about reading in general. Now that I'm done with college, I realize that my aliteracy is a serious problem, and I want to change. I want to be able to enjoy reading, be it for purpose or for pleasure.

Step 1: Pick up a book
Step 2: Open said book
Step 3: Read book
Step 4: Repeat as necessary

The important thing is to find books that you actually enjoy reading, so that you're not just doing it to say you did.
