We recently lost a screen legend, and today we have lost a screen music legend. Film score composer James Horner died in a plane crash today. He was flying his own plane when it crashed north of Santa Barbra. He was one of my top three favorite film composers. Some of my favorite works of his were the soundtracks to Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan, Aliens, and Titanic. I don't think a James Cameron movie will ever be the same without his music.

He also did Willow, Braveheart, Field of Dreams, Glory, Casper, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Troy, and Avatar.

He sure did a lot. This is a sad loss. :(

He was one of my three favorite film score composers. I'd always get excited when I saw that he did the score when watching a movie.

The other two are John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, ET, Indiana Jones, etc) and Alan Silvestri (Predator, Back To The Future, etc). There are others that I enjoy, but they are my top three favorites.

Film scores and soundtracks are a niche market, so don't feel terrible that you never heard of him. I was surprised that no one made a post about his passing which is why I started one, which goes to show that people who listen to scores are not as common as people who listen to Pop, Rap, or any of the major music genres.

One of the most ripped-off composers I can think of, his Star Trek II and Aliens music in particular.

Willow is a great soundtrack.
