There are a lot of favorites for me, but one picture that stands out that fascinated me when I was younger is Brooklyn Bridge by Joseph Stella. When I was later working on Lamplight (a huge painting I have not posted here) my teacher pointed out that I worked in a style known as Futurism. On looking it up, I found that this picture was also in that style.



Mind you, I adore the work of Rackham and have learned from it. I am doing some variations on a picture inspired by that sort of art and have plans to carry on more in that style since I'm working in inks now.

I am also fascinated by art that shows what I can't show on my own face much of the time... Human feeling. Real stuff on the face itself. Anyone who can accurately show people is most amazing. Here's one for the Christians (which I am) "Let the Children Come" by Liz Lemon Swindle:



I also prefer the protrayal of Christ as someone human, that was much of the point after all. I tried to find another picture I like, of Joseph with the baby Jesus, a right fat little baby as babies should be, but I can't recall the name. It shows the baby about to grab Joseph's beard.

Finally, an unexpected one, which I can't imbed. The works of Drew Struzan, famous for poster art. His posters were often far superior to the movies they advertised. You can see full size pictures of his at his website:

I could never aspire to such a level... or perhaps I could. Just in the sense that Howard Jones once sang "Your aspirations are in the clouds but your hopes are down the drain."

I know you asked for one... but that's hard. My true favorite is generally what I'm working on at the time.

Yes, asking for a favourite piece of art was very mean of me, LOL. I should have said favourites. Post any you like. Maybe you'd like to show us some of your own work? I'd love to see some.



I love the Angel of the North by Anthony Gormley. It's so huge! And it stands there in all weathers, silently guarding the North East.

I like this pic. It looks like a mysterious and intriguing place to explore. Fog has that effect.

Nice places for a walk




A lot of the images I saw when browsing looked like they had been digitally altered. I don't like that. When I see a photograph it should represent what I would expect to see if I was actually there. Otherwise I feel like I'm being cheated.

This is sooo weird! After I posted a topic with my art, I looked around in the forum to see what else was there and found your topic and the image you had posted of the three sirens...

Now this is really weird because if you look at my topic, the first artwork that I have posted is also (my version) of the three sirens...

Such beautiful paintings...I love Daniel Samuels work Graelwyn, it is so full of wonderful classical images and symbolism. The sort of paintings you can look at time and time again and still find something new. They have a 'haunting' quality to them...amazing!

Yes, as a child I would often stop and study the prints we had of them. We only had one original I believe and to my fury, my father has sold it. He is not into art and the like as my mother and I are. But I have some of the prints coming to me once I have a large enough place. I wish I had been older as he died before I became interested to this degree in art and mythology. I saw his studio once...he died in it. For some reason, I do not think he accepted the offer by the Tate gallery to permanently display his work. I am proud of what he achieved anyway, they are beautiful. I am glad you like them. I shall try and photograph the one at my mothers next time I go so I can upload a larger image for you.

The works of Daniel Samuels also caught my eye in this topic. I love mythology, especially the Greek mythology, and I have a soft spot for everything Greek, as I have been born there and lived in Athens until I was 17. Yes, I do speak Greek, too.

Graelwyn, I was wondering what was the size of these paintings as to me they look like rather large works of about maybe 5-6 feet wide and about 3-4 feet high. Am I correct to picture them in that format?
