Hi, everyone. Pop quiz. What is your favorite genre of music that matches your emotions? Mine is Christian and adult contemporary.

Different times have different emotions. Different emotions call for different genre. But not necessarily different genre - every genre can have different moods. For example, when sad, I might listen to The Doors' The End, or Moonlight Sonata. I've always thought though, that anything melodic and high energy epitomises happiness, from Take Me On to Beast And The Harlot (not necessarily playlist buddies, but of the same mood).

I find it hard switch off at night, so i'd listen to meditations with music, soft music for induced sleep.

Other then that it's often rock pop, rock or metal, doomy stuff when i'm feeling sad, rockfish stuff when feeling happier.

I can't stand rnb or rap music, all that ranting gives me a headache no matter what mood.

I'd guess it varies from person to person, depending on your moods, unless you just like one specific genre then in that case, it may depend on the song...

Mostly pop and rock; it more depends on the mood and lyrics of the song than the genre for whether it matches my emotions.

Well it can very a bit...But if I am feeling more kinda down I prefer darker kind of depressive music like depressive black metal, doom metal, death/doom metal, post punk or darker industrial kinda music or psychedelic rock/music that creates a darker atmosphere(I don't really like upbeat psychdelic if I am feeling down...but if I am more energetic, in a better mood and looking to just enjoy the time I like the more upbeat psychdelic music). I also like heavy metal, thrash metal, 80's hair metal when feeling more energized or to listen to for cleaning or something where I want to try and stay rather active.....Though I listen to all those kinds of music and more in general to not just dependent on mood.

True, upbeat music can motivate people.
I wonder if anyone really listens to depressed music when happy or happy music when depressed.

I listen to artist that tend to have not so much upbeat tunes, but music where you can dance to it and sing along. I'm a very high energy person (not so much lately, but when I was happier with myself). These are some of my favorite songs:

Anything with a beat can get people motivated, the music you've provided is a bit like aprty music.

tbh I didn't mind the birthday Masssacre even though i'm not a dance music fan personally. @XXZeromancerloveXX like to keep an open mind so I listened to the songs that you provided below.

Thanks for sharing! :D

I am not typically happy, but I know when the depression is acting up more...upbeat music annoys me, even if its styles of music I like and will prefer the darker bands of that genre. Like if I am feeling more down but want to hear psychdelic rock I go for the darker/deeper stuff rather than the more up-beat sounding stuff.

Sadly, Botdf has gone downhill. Now they release all of this mainstream, EDM and Dubstep stuff that just doesn't seem to be my thing. I'm still a very loyal fan, but I miss their songs like "Bewitched" and "Death to Your Heart!" because those are two very unique songs that no band will ever be able to recreate.

I know people who love Dubstep and EDM (I live with somebody who does), but even he doesn't like Botdf. Plus, they have a cute lead singer with an awesome voice!

Sorry if I went all super fan. TBM (The Birthday Massacre) are awesome!

@xxZeromancerlovexx

That happens unfortunely, a lot of bands or musicians do become more commercialised and once they're under the mainstream category of music, they're become sell outs. Never heard of these songs but you do sound like quite a fan of theirs, I can't be a dedicated fan to many bands as I find a lot of the cases now, I may like a couple of albums and singles and then find I don't like them anymore so i'm just a casual listener to bands and have selected favourite of songs rather then albums.
Like you i'm not a dubstep fan either and tbh I don't know much about EDM, I don't follow the charts anymore.
No need to apologise, I like hearing what kind of music other people are into, even if I know nothing about the music and the artist behind the music. Do you like any other type of dancy or sing songy type of music? I like some of the 90's popish songs that people can sing or dance too, songs they would probably play at a holiday park venue

@ Sweetleaf
Upbeat music annoys me too, if it's rave type of music like techno, dance music, electronic dance ect
although I do like rock ish sounding pop stuff. What kind of psychedelic rock do you tend to listen too?
I like oldie stuff or some 60's psychedelic rock personally , like Donovan and people debate whether or not to class his music as psychedelic folk or psychedelic rock. So whatever the mood you like more darker deeper sounding music?

@sorrowfairiewhisper

I like a lot of different songs by lots of different artist. My music taste is quite varied:

I am a huge Blink-182 fan! I've been listening to them since middle school and still love them to this day. If I had to pick a favorite by them I'd say "Adam's Song" or "Feeling This". The video for "Feeling This" is so freaking weird 8O

I'm weird when it comes to how music affects me emotionally. My appreciation for it works entirely on a subconscious level. Sometimes I can't stand a song because of it's message, other times I feel like I connect to what the song is expressing, sometimes I'm emotional and the song comforts me, but most of the time I just like how it sounds.

I guess the musical genres that best match my typical emotional states are downtempo and electronic rock.

I used to like all kinds of music, back when I wasn't thinking clearly. Back in high school, I used to experimented with rock music. But when I started college, I didn't know it was going to affect me, which it did. Rock music, metal music, Grunge, emo, Riot Girrl, and Goth music was awful because it was all negativity and emnui. So, I got out of those genres as fast as I can. I love listening to Christian music and adult contemporary music, because it expresses what I felt, from putting God first to finding true love. As a result, I was happy. Also, I listen to Maja Toudal, because it shows that even Aspies can express themselves by singing and writing a song.

What is adult contemporary? I've heard of the genre, but don't know of any of the artist.

One thing I love about music is that everyone has their own unique tastes. To be honest, music tends not to effect my mood unless it's something I'm going through. If I listen to the song enough, I build up a tolerance to it.

I'm not goth or emo, but I love The Birthday Massacre! I'm not sure what my label is. Video games, shopping, watching anime, watching cartoons, writing, studying demonology and reading are my hobbies so I'm not sure which category I fall under :D

I believe that people should do whatever they wants as long as they're not harming themselves or harming other people.

"Trailer music" (i. e., that really dramatic orchestra-and-choir music you hear in movie ads) and some symphonic metal...really dramatic, pulse-pounding music. My emotions tend to be dramatic that way. Plus it helps with my writing-related daydreams. :oops:

Soothing/chill-out/ambient music, I just tune out and don't even hear. :/
