Colouring in
Anyone else absolutely love colouring in?
I've always loved art, particularly drawing. Last year I fancied colouring in for some reason and found colouring in books for grown ups! I didn't know they existed and Googled out of curiosity. I found The Secret Garden and bought it, it's absolutely lovely. And recently I bought a colour therapy colouring in book, and today a really bizarre animal one. It's all really random and has aliens and stuff drawn in the animals, coming out of their fur and the sea and stuff. It's brilliant. I also printed off some pages for my step daughter and step son, but printed out a few for myself too which I took a liking to. I have a page of buttons, Alice In Wonderland, and some random patterns. I am also awaiting the arrival of the I Can't Sleep colouring in book which looks lovely, it was only a few quid from Amazon.
I have felt tips and pencils, but I am totally in love with the 72 tin of Derwent Inktense my husband bought me. They're so vibrant and beautiful! I do love felt tips but they do tend to bleed through the paper. Also you can't seem to get a good range of shades with felt tips unless you pay quite a bit for them. I have my eye on some which I may ask Santa for this year
I do also enjoy children's colouring books, but lean more towards grown up ones just because I quite like intricate patterns and also the lovely dreamy ones you can find too. Sometimes it's nice, as much as I love drawing, to just have something already drawn. I can get quite frustrated if I can't perfect a drawing, and colouring in books remove that for me.
I also adore coloring, but I'm mostly limited to my own drawings, as this is the first I've heard of "coloring books for adults", which I may have to look into.
It's actually very stress relieving though, in one my high school art classes I recall being given a period of time at the beginning of class just to color an old drawing. It also eliminates the frustration that sometimes accompanies trying to forge a drawing of your own, which has always been my biggest issue.
I used to solely color with colored pencils, but I've found as of late I like markers for their bolder colors, I have a couple of different kinds, some brush markers and the old fashioned chisel tips, nothing super fancy though.

There is both an exquisite beauty and a mighty terror to the monster.
I work in a bookstore, and for the last few months adult coloring books have surged in popularity. My own store has three separate displays of them throughout its two story building. I'm not sure what sparked it - maybe some celebrity or radio show endorsed it - but it certainly seems to be quite the trend nowadays.
