I'm interested in this as an art form and interested in learning how to draw/create this especially digitally (any input there would be great too) so I thought I'd get hold of some published manga and see how it's done, both the artistic style and the storytelling. I don't however enjoy things targeted at children. Anyone have any good recommendations for manga books/graphic novels/whatever for adults?

Manga is specifically a Japanese type of comic.

Have a look at Comixology. They have a lot of free comics. Image Comics are my favourite publisher and their books are aimed at adults and have some wonderful art. They have manga on Comixology too if that's what you're interested in.

Most of the mangas I've read target a wide audience, but teenagers seem to be one of the most important target groups.

I have one manga I absolutely love, which is Maison Ikkoku by Rumiko Takahashi. It's a love comedy, but it's actually kinda deep. It functions on many different levels.

It might not be the sort of thing you are interested in; people mean a lot of things when they say manga.

What sort of topics are you interested in?

There are specific kinds of manga targeted towards adults:

Josei - target: late teen and adult females.
Seinen - target: late teen and adult males.
Hentai - 18+ scenes
Yaoi - male+male love, 18+ scenes (as opposite to shounen-ai which usually doesn't have such scenes)
Yuri - female+female love, 18+ scenes (as opposite to shojo-ai which usually doesn't have such scenes)

Also shounen (target: teenage boys) can be quite interesting for an adult.

Browse the categories in any manga website for examples.

BTW. If you are into manga you might try anime. The same drawing style, the same story - just in color and with sound. :D
