My primary taste in music is classical, but I am always up for input regarding contemporary and/or non-classical music. Some contemporary groups/ singers I like are:

The Duhks
Radiohead
Porcupine Tree
Mercedes Sosa
Atahualpa Yupanqui
Carlos Gardel
The Beatles
Dredg

Does anyone have some suggestions/ recommendations of non-classical music they like?

I usually hear electronic music or j-pop. But recently I stumbled upon Ally Kerr's music and I really like that now. The Sore Feet Song is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a while. :)

These days my mix in the car is 50% jungle (dark jungle, hip-hop jungle, jazz-step, techstep, intelligent d&b), 10% early to mid 90s alternative/industrial (PWEI, Skinny Puppy, Tool, etc.) and then 40% mid 90's gangster rap (Mobb Deep, Cypress Hill, Wu Tang, Method Man, Dilated Peoples). Pretty much the overall theme for my tastes is either dark and dysphoric, cocky and hardhitting, or real deep and mysterious 'make you think' type stuff that gives you mad chills when done right.

Lol, that only adds up to 90%. Hmmm, what's the other 10% that you don't want us to know about?

Lol, good looking out. I meant to edit the rap up to 40% (I had the jungle at 60% orginally).

Yeah, sure you did... And you wanna be an accountant? j/k

You can't get away with math typos on a forum of aspies. We're counting, adding everything up... I'm sure someone else would have noticed it soon enough if I didn't catch it.

No country, no rap. And preferably no music that almost half the song lyrics are profanity, either. Except for that, I'm pretty open with the music I listen to, but dislike it when it's loud.

no rap. ever. No country, except Johnny Cash, Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek, except Nickel Creek really isn't country, it doesn't fit in any category. Phantom of the Opera soundtrack-Movie Version....Sarah Brightman sings like she has something stuck in her throat when she does Christine in the stage version-Emmy Rossum all the way!! !! ! Bob Dylan, Sixpence None The Richer, Newsboys, Relient K, Bryan Adams, Nellie McKay, Starting Line, June Tabor, Iona, Chris Rice, Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, George Huff, Fernando Ortega, Rich Mullins, Josh Groban, The Beatles, Five Iron Frenzy, Sherri Youngward, Steve Goodman, Vanessa Carlton, Norah Jones, LOTR soundtracks, Kasey Chambers, Strawbs, Star Wars soundtrack, Anything by Danny Elfman outside Oingo Boingo, The W's, Vince Gill(only 'cos I'm obsessed with Amy Grant), Joan Baez, Bruce Cockburn, Horslips, Black 47, and my musical obsessions, Amy Grant(My biggest obsession) and Great Big Sea(a more minor obsession)
I know there's lots more I like, I just can't think of it right now.
