Can Anyone Else Relate to The Who's Jimmy Cooper?
(originally posted under random discussion, now moved here)
Can anyone else relate to him as an anti-hero? Since I was 17 (I'm 22 now), I've been obsessed over Quadrophenia (not every second of every day, but it was especially pervasive at 17 and more recently). There's just so much I feel I have in common with him (we're both anti-heroes who can't fit in with our peers, or anybody for that matter; we're both addicted to pornography, and while he's addicted to drugs and alcohol, I'm addicted to video games; we're both very paranoid about others and their intentions, which makes us fear society and people in general; we both went through a really rough time with a girl; he commits suicide at the end of the film adaptation, and simply rides out to an island to experience a grand catharsis in the album, and I've attempted suicide a few times; he's living with his parents a bit longer than is realistic for his situation, same as me except it's just my mom and me; we've both got therapists who are trying their best to help, but we're not working with them to solve anything; school is just a joke to us, and as a result we haven't done very well in it; we're both just all around marginalized people in society). Some songs that really resound deeply with me are:
"The Real Me"
"Cut my Hair"
"I'm One"
"The Dirty Jobs"
"Is It in My Head"
"I've Had Enough"
"Sea and Sand"
and
"Love, Reign O'er Me"
