Here is a smidge of it. It's a little dramatic.

Operator by Charles Bukowski

The phone doesn't ring.
The hours hang
limp and empty.
Everyone else is
having it all.

It seems to never end.

One night it got very bad.
I needed just a voice.

I dialed the time on the telephone
and listened to her voice as she said:
"It's eleven ten and ten seconds.
It's eleven ten and twenty seconds.
It's eleven ten and thirty seconds..."

Then she told me it was:
"...eleven ten and forty seconds."
She might have saved my life
although I'm not sure.

I like that. It says it all in such a brief space. I was surprised that I knew exactly what he meant - or at least what I thought he meant. Maybe everybody does. Who is Charles Bukowski, where is more of his stuff?

Have you heard of the movie "Factotum", the one where Matt Dillon plays Bukowski?

Bukowski was born as Henry Chinaski which is where all the books where Chinaski is the main character. Those books with Chinaski as the lead character is actually Bukowski talking about himself in the second person.

Sorry I don't know movies at all, not that one either. Books, now, I can do books. Is Bukowski and real person and the author? or is he a character in the books, in which case who is the author?

Bukowski did learn of his origins so Henry Chinaski is his real name.
That leads to Chinaski/Bukowski being the lead character is most of his books in the second person.
