Being a cartoon lover of such cartoons as ren and stimpy, count duckula, spongebob, and the like, i have always heard certain musical pieces in the background that i knew as familiar, yet i couldn't identify. Now, i'm a musician myself (played guitar for 11 years) who has always wanted to write music for cartoons and tv. I have searched high and low for these musical pieces wondering what they were. Finally, i figured out they were production music - pieces produced by a company called KPM. They are commonly used in the background of many cartoons we know. This s**t rocks! Here are some pieces from kpm you may recognize-

"hit and run" - a fast, jazzy number used during chase sequences. Very commonly used in Ren and Stimpy.

"valse moderne" - A very parisian sounding waltz used often in the background of cartoons portraying france.

"spindlelegs" - A happy, innocent piece.

"turkey trot" - very similar to "spindlelegs" and used during similar sequences.

"saw theme" - A very eerie and creepy tune used during sci-fi and paranormal scenes. Should be recognizable to Ren and Stmpy and Count Duckula fans.

These are just a few of the great ones. Take a peak on to their site to find more. If you watch ren and stmpy, count duckula, or spongebob, you are sure to recognize a few.

Yes!The Raymond Scott Quintette and the Carl Stalling Project are essential for this sort of thing.

For similarly toned, lively guitar music of that era, also check out Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant.BIG fun.Django is great, too.
