Just finished listening to Music For The Masses, and I absolutely have no clue why they are not the most popular band ever. Anyone else fond of their music, and what are you favorite songs or albums by them?

I love: Enjoy the Silence, But Not Tonight (my fav), Personal Jesus, Sun and the Rainfall, The Things you Said, Photographic (love the Bizzare remix!), See You, and Walking in my Shoes.

Right here. The first venue I attended was Depeche Mode at the Rose Bowl in 1988 for their "Concert for the Masses". The second venue was in 1990 for the "Violator" show. Both venues were awesome. My favorite is "Everything Counts" live from the Rose Bowl, People Are People", "Personal Jesus", "World In My Eyes", and "Enjoy the Silence". Dave Gahan is a god!! !

Sounds like you "Just Can't get Enough". :P

I used to be obsessed with 'em years ago. But I've moved onto other things. There is a Christian group I like called Mad at the World. Their 80's jams sound very much like Depeche Modes styles from that era. In fact, the lead member said in am interview that they got some musical inspiration from them. But he didn't like their lyrics at all. Neither do I.

But Depeche Modes musical abilities are really top quality. And some of their music is pretty addicting.

Satellite is one of my least favourite songs, although I loved A Broken Frame when I was a teen.

Another really cool Mode song is "Clean".Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher are the ones that had me hooked on the keys. These days I cannot play long sets because I have severe carpal tunnel syndrome

I haven't listened to them in a while, but "Music For the Masses" is a great album, along with "Some Great Reward", "Black Celebration", and "Violator". I've heard bits of their other stuff, but IMO their mid 80s-early 90s period was their best. I really should explore their earlier and later stuff more - I didn't really care for what I heard on "Songs of Love and Devotion" or "Ultra", but that was a few years ago and my tastes have changed somewhat since then.

If you're looking for something darker and more experimental, I highly recommend Skinny Puppy. They are one of my favorite bands of all time, and I once heard someone describe them as "Depeche Mode's evil twin". It just so happens that a lot of DM fans like SP as well, so give them a shot. The albums "Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse", "Cleanse, Fold, and Manipulate", and "VIVIsectVI" are probably their best, though their other albums are good too.

I agree that "Music for the Masses" is their best album. I like "Never Let Me Down Again" and "Route 66". "Never Let Me Down Again" is song you are playing with your girlfriend in her room.

I am, though admittedly I haven't heard near enough of their work.
