You strip away the melody, soften the vocals when the singer is far away from the camera, get someone else to sing the lyrics when the camera focuses on someone else whose lip movements match the song lyrics, add different dialogue when someone's lip movements don't match up to the lyrics, mute the lyrics completely when nobody on camera is singing, and add sound effects that match up with whatever is happening on screen.
