The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album is special
I've been a fan of The Velvet Underground for years now, and I've noticed that The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album is truly a special effort. I mean, just look The Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat; both of those albums were nasty, messed up efforts, to be frank with you guys. The Velvet Underground & Nico and White Light/White Heat had noise, monotone vocals, drones, dissonance and ugly, seedy lyrics about drugs, prostitutes, orgies and blowjobs, along with screechy violas and tribal drum parts. The Velvet Underground has such a bizarre and unfriendly sound on their first 2 albums.
And yet, on their self-titled third album, The Velvet Underground changed their sound COMPLETELY. So much of that album is quiet, sparse and intimate, with these poignant lyrics about love, life and personal issues. The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album is very subtle and understated, and parts of it are honestly beautiful and potentially life-changing. "Candy Says", "Jesus" and "I'm Set Free" are genuinely heartbreaking, and they could make me cry in certain moments. The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album has this genuine, almost therapeutic quality that really isn't found in many other albums.,
Overall, The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album really means a lot to me, and I consider it to be an outright theme song for autistic people like me. Does anybody else agree with me on this?
