I was wondering if any of the experience musicians on the form can give me any advice. I’m 19 years old and looking to pick up a guitar for the first time in my life I’ve played a bit when I was a kid but basically starting out from scratch I was wondering if it was possible if I put in the effort and practiced for a couple hours each day if I could get good enough to play in a band when I’m in my mid-twenties. I know autistic people sometimes have unnatural ability for music all my life my aspergers has been a hindrance I'm hoping that I can use it to my advantage to become a great musician. I have an old acoustic guitar I aim to learn a few strings before I move on to an electric. I was wondering how I should go about learning to play if anyone had any suggestions I'd appreciate the feedback

Covering your favorite songs has always been a winning method.

I 100% agree with this. Try picking some of your favorite songs and learn how to play them. As you learn more, you work on getting more complex with your playing. For instance, when I first started teaching myself how to play the piano I would only learn the right handed parts and would avoid chords for the most part. As I got better, I added the chords in. Then I added in the left hand with chords. Then what? Let's see how fast I can play it now without screwing up!

Just go to youtube and search for "how to play X on guitar" (insert your favourite song for X)
Guitar is relatively easy to learn, assuming you have the coordination to do different things with both of your hands.

I really don't have such coordination, and even i am moderately proficient at the guitar, even though i'm holding it 'wrong' (the left-handed grip as a right-handed person).

Start with internet, or even better, a teaching book.

After you get to a certain point just get a personal tutor... otherwise you won't progress.

I'm not a guitarist but I am an experienced musician playing several other instruments. GL
