There's been a book that I started reading at the school library when I was 11 but, for some reason, I never finished it.
When I was reading it, I didn't even know Asperger's existed. There have been a lot of times when I remembered about this book, even when I didn't suspect I was autistic, and I regretted never finishing it. I'd really like to find it and read it from beginning to end. I don't remember the title, or the author, or anything. I can't find information about it anywhere. I've even considered going to my school to search it (I'm not sure if this would be a good idea). Let's see if anyone can help me find it...
NOTE: It can't have been published after 2002, because I was reading it some time between 2001 and 2002.
Here's the story:
The main character (and I think also the 1st person narrator) is a (classic) autistic kid. At the beginning, I think he was in a trip to the mountain with his parents, and he started trying to catch a butterfly.
He was sometimes home with his grandma, and she used to tell him stories from her childhood. Once, she tells him the story of Adam and Eve from the Genesis, but changed. Adam and Eve wanted to reproduct, but God didn't let them. They did anyway, so they were expelled from Paradise.
One of the other stories she tells him is about the war, when she was a kid. Here, I have a problem, because I think it was the Spanish civil war from 1936 to 1939 (so it would be a Spanish book), but it could also be the WWII. I'm not completely sure. Anyway, she says she became deaf of one ear because of the sirens that warned of a bombing. They don't mention the word, but she develops hypoacusis, ie, a constant tinnitus in her ears.
This boy has a neighbour who is a misanthrope and hates everyone, but I don't remember any story with him.
That's all I remember!

Is it The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night? I haven't read it myself, but I worked in a bookstore around that time and it was popular when I worked there.

No. If it was that one, I would know, because it's really famous. But the main character in the book I say is a lot younger, and doesn't have Asperger's, but classic autism.
But thanks for trying!

Curious Incident was about a kid with autism who worked to solve a mystery. It was fun to read, except that I hated the ending.

And now that I realize after reading it on Wikipedia, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night is from 2003, so it can't be that one.
