Does anyone else not really get mainstream music? I've never really liked much of the music that everyone around me likes and the stuff that I do like my friends have never heard of. I've even been teased about it sometimes.

What would you consider to be mainstream music?

Tim

well around here it's like Avril Lavigne, Daughtry, Rascal Flatts, and Fall Out Boy. that kind of stuff. A lot of hip hop too but I don't know too many Artists' names.

I mean I like some of her stuff okay but I've never really been enough to call myself an actual fan of much.

I've never gotten main stream music much either. At least not most of it. In HS, they would talk about my "drug" music or just think it was plain weird. Where I used to work, they had alot of the same impressions..

Anything that you will hear on commercial broadcast FM Radio.

For the record, I dislike mainstream music myself, preferring instead a lot of regional /underground Rock and Roll`from the past 40 or so years. I grew up in the Punk Scene during the 80's and like that music, however, my tastes have broadened quite a bit from the standard generic hardcore.

Often, when I turn people on to what I'm listening to, they really like it.

Yeah I do that to. I just recently got a guy interested in the Zutons which no one around here has ever heard of.

Yes, I don't really get mainstream music either. I find a lot of it to be shallow and pointless. Most of the music I listen to is outside the mainstream. I listen to a lot of obscure bands most people haven't heard of.

I have serious problem with "mainstream music". I find it, well, simple.
After listening a lot to music which is very complex music and/or very fast, regular music bores me. It's like me brain has been tuned-up to a higher standard.
But that's not the way it has always been. The first time I listened to Goa music for example, I was overwhelmed and couldn't grasp it. That was also my motivation for listening to it, and that's a feeling I'm trying to find again, but can't. So in a way I'm a music junkie, looking for new kicks.
