Let's see if anyone can find place names in the U.S. in popular music songs.

However, there is a catch: You can't use country music songs to find southern cities.

I'll do the first state: Alabama

"Sweet Home Alabama", by Lynnard Skynnard

Alabama, Birmingham, and Muscle Shoals are mentioned in the song.

(I do find it weird that *Kentucky* Fried Chicken uses the melody to this song in its commercials).

Just so long as it isn't country music.

Here's the song with probably the most place names:

"Heart of Rock 'n' Roll", by Huey Lewis and the News

Hollywood, New York, Austin, Oklahoma City, Seattle, San Francisco, Baton Rouge, Tulsa, Philadelphia (called "the Liberty town" in the song), Boston, San Antonio, D.C.

"We Built This City" by Starship (formerly Jefferson Starship, formerly Jefferson Airplane).

The whole song is about San Francisco.

California Dreamin' by the Mama's and the Papa's

New York, New York by Frank Sinatra

Meet me in Montana...no wait is that considered country?...by Marie Osmond & Dan Seals..
yeah I guess so...scratch that one.

Ohio, by the Pretenders

Black Water, by the Doobie Brothers mentions Mississippi

I can think of others but most of them seem kind of country, some Elvis songs mostly.

I'll count "Meet Me..." Dan Seals is not considered a country singer. He is better known as "England Dan" and often sang duos with John Ford Coley.
