I know there are a good many musicians on here and possibly ones who work with MIDI sequencing. I'm working on a soundtrack to a game I'm making and am searching around for a good Windows-based MIDI sequencer.

I have tried a couple of the freeware sequencers - Anvil Studio and Jazz, but I'm not sure if they are what I'm looking for. I'm still evaluating them but would like to hear any recommendations people have (freeware or not) - I'm even considering the higher end stuff like Sonar or Cubase - as music is a long-term pursuit for me. I've just been out of the MIDI sequencing area for several years and am not sure what the latest developments are. Thanks in advance!

FL Studio, Ableton Live and Reason are also good choices... but none of these are free. You should also buy a magazine called "computer music", as it includes a free sequencer and a few VST instruments/effects.
