I have quite a lot of Puccini's and Mozart's operas, and I've written two operas myself. Is there anyone here who enjoys opera somewhat?

I must confess, I'm more into it for the music and the singing than I am for the lyrics and the plot -- and I count myself strange in that regard.

Opera has been called the highest form of art, because it combines so many artistic skills, including music, dance/choreography, set design/painting, prop creation/selection, plot writing, lyric writing, character development, directing, etc.
Basically, it's the cinema of the pre-camera era. Movies are modern operas. Films get their entire form from, as Wagner described operas, "music dramas".

I love some specific singers & specific scenes from specific operas. Can't say I'm "into opera" - but I can appreciate it. I absolutely love Frederica von Stade - especially in this role:

Ya, that's a favorite of mine. And that girl does a great job.

Ya, I really can't call myself an "opera buff", but I most definitely dabble.

it's one of those things where i can logically respect and admire the incredible technique and training needed to pull it off...but it does nothing for me, other than possibly annoying me...i think i like that one song from carmen, but that's about it...x

Some, not all.

I have the entire Ring Cycle (Wagner) on my MP3 player.. that's 15 hours worth by itself. Also Tannhauser and Tristan and Isolade.

Though I think my favorite Opera to WATCH is PDQ Bach's "Abduction of Figero"...

Another favourite, but not really Opera per-se is Carmina Burana...

Cool! I only have Valkyrie, plus several other of his non-Ring operas. (Hey, it was a cheap CD set, called "Beyond The Ring" or something like that.)
