Can anyone recommend me a book to read for this summer. I'm looking for either an amazing book in general or a really good book that someone with aspergers can relate to. Either works. Also if you don't mind telling me why you recommend it as well?

I can recommend a few. Some you might have read, others, I doubt....

Have you read any Terry Practhett books?

Dune, by Frank Herbert (one of the best s-f novels of all time, with really intense cultural and historical background)

House of Leaves, by Mark Danielewski (an excellent psychological horror novel that requires a bit of thought to follow)

Doctor Who: Human Nature, by Paul Cornell (recently adapted into a TV episode of Doctor Who, this orginal novel shows what happens when the Doctor decides to become human. Fairly Aspie. While it is out of print, the BBC website has an e-book version, in pdf format, here:http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/classic/ebooks/human_nature/)

Hmm... well, anything by Terry Pratchett. Quatermass is absolutely right to recommend him.

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson is an excellent read, too- especially if you're into non-fiction.

Mark Twain, esp. Huckleberry Finn - one of my all-time favourites.

Damn! You took my book suggestion. This book is pretty much my obsession as is anything or Mark Danielewski. I utterly love this book it changed my life. I plan to read it again soon. I also think it is a great equalizer. If Aspies or NTs read it both are utterly confused but it so much fun. Haha.

But how about these book suggestions.

Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. It is from spain but it reads soo good that you forget that it is a translation. I just describe this book as rich with its words. Awesome book or at least I think so.

Battle Royale. I forget the author but he this is another forgein read from Japan. If you aren't queasy and enjoy psychological thrillers, action, and or gore. Really great book.

How I Became Stupid. I just realized that all my suggestions are translations. This was a french book about a guy, who I if I think about it might have AS and thinks that it is his intellect that is making him unhappy therefore he decides to become stupid. And he tries to learn to become an alchololic and all this stuff. Very funny.

Only Revolutions the next book by Mark Z. Danielewski. I haven't read this yet but I plan to read it this summer. I have gotten through part of it but it is a real trip like House of Leaves. Requires some research of US history and trying to understand context of some works because the book has alot of teenage slang throughout the US history. Plus you have to turn and flip the book to read it, since you pretty much start reading it a both ends.

Danielewski is a literary god! I am so close to making a shrine for him. I even got his novella he released in exclusively in Holland. Its in english but it is only one of a thousand in the world! Best spent hundred bucks in my lifetime. Inless I shell out the big bucks of the first edition of House of Leaves. I am probably going to end up with four different copies of House of Leaves. One for my original which is falling apart, one to write in, the new remastered edition to remain untouched, and the first edition to sit in a vacuumed sealed glass case. Haha.

I read it because I heard it had similar themes to the Silent Hill games. It's very labyrinthian. Do you leave tape measures all over the place or something?

one day after i discovered the existence of AS, i realized that some of the books i've read before were actually about similar people. that's why i liked the characters so much. one book was clearly about an AS person in NT world (it didn't say so, i think the author didn't even have to know that was describing an AS), but i forgot the name so i don't tell you now. i did ask a person who knows, though. i am waiting for the answer (email). the other book in which i liked its main character a lot, because it was somehow AS related, was Perfume from Patrick Süskind. I believe you heard of it, or even saw the movie. The movie doesn't say much, though. Reading the book is like going inside of Grenouille's head. The way he closed himself from the outside world waiting for his chance, reminds me a lot of my life. With the little difference that I didn't start killing people yet :)

edit: ok, i've got the answer: The Stranger by Albert Camus,
I recommend to every aspie... you will love it...
