The American writers Philip Roth and Tom Wolfe both died in the past week Say, as I wrote this, the old " deaths come in threes " adage came to me! Ya think 8O ?...- Anyone else here read much by them? I read some of both, probably more than a half-dizen if each over the years, but definitely not everything  ...
Maybe they were a but " old hat " as writers to the younger folk here, I dunni  :? ...There I go, shooting myself down again!! !

I read "Bonfire of the Vanities" way way back and "I am Charlotte Simmons". For "Portnoy's Complaint" and "American Pastoral" , I've only seen the movies.

...Roth, especially, was, kinda, the popular end.of literary fiction roughly about the time I did't go to college  . Wolfe, too, was also " the big time " at that time, though he had't really taken up fiction-writing then.
So, they were the grown-up world at the time I did not make the step into that world :(. I might argue that I was hammered from it, but allowed to properly :( - whatever. Roth was maybe seen as a bit of a Rat Pack-tyoei anachronism by the end, maybe?? 8O , if still admired for his writing.
Do things for me to cry over  , no ink aside, there's the two things I say at the end of my sig   .

I only know Wolfe by reputation, having never read anything by him. I did read a story by Roth back in college called, Defender Of The Faith, which I have always remembered fondly.

]...I don't't really recall that, perhaps I read it.
That reminds me that I never got to go to university - I brought it up before, earlier in this line - and that it's likely to be forevermore denied me  .
I wonder if my mother, somewhere, is sorry she would repeatedly drunkenly screamed at me when I was at home at night's from cc :(? Perhaps I was supposed to expect that - Those were just the dues I was to expect to pa7y :( . My father never let me talk about the rape. He said he'd call the Crisis Intervention Team to have me put away if I did. He never 180 degree reversed that . I'm now inclined too, if I die, refuse being interred in the plot my parents and brother are in and ask, instead, to have my ashes, perhaps, dumped 50 percent at Jones Beach in NYC for youthful freedom and 50 percent at some ink - to stand in for what I never got in life      - or perhaps 100 percent a uni - for that reason   .
