What happened to Art Deco? I see it was once how people envisioned the future, then its popularity faded away at some point. I mostly like the architecture, but I also enjoy some of the artwork. One article I read online attributed its fall to the motor vehicle, I can't recall how. Another publication I read online theorized that it was because Art Deco was of a transitional phase, one of which involved the move away from the hands of a craftsman to the talons of a machine.

Then later would come Atomic Age and how people then envisioned the future, which to me looks radically different from Art Deco.

E o futuro é uma astronave
Que tentamos pilotar.
Não tem tempo nem piedade,
Nem tem hora de chegar.
Sem pedir licença,
Muda a nossa vida,
E depois convida
A rir ou chorar.

And the future is a spaceship
We try to pilot.
It has no time or mercy,
Nor due date.
Without asking for permission,
It changes our life,
And then invites us
To laugh or to cry.

Nessa estrada não nos cabe
Conhecer ou ver o que virá.
O fim dela, ninguém sabe
Bem ao certo onde vai dar.
Vamos todos numa linda passarela
De uma aquarela
Que um dia, enfim,
Descolorirá.

On this road there’s no
Knowing or seeing what will come.
Its end, noöne truly knows
Where it leads to.
We all go along a fine runway
In a watercolor
That one day, eventually,
Will fade.

The future: a spaceship
Out for planets to conquer.
Will it solve the problem
Of hunger on Earth,
Or will it bring wars
For the possession
Of the riches of our world?

Ni pluludu la muzikon
Kaj laboru kun fervor’.
La muziko, la laboro,
L’ amikeco: jen trezor’!
Estas ĉiuj ni partoj
De bela ludo dum l’ akvarel’
Senkoloriĝos jam,
Senkoloriĝos jam.

Let’s keep playing the music
And work with fervor.
Music, work,
Friendship: that’s a treasure!
We’re all parts
In a beautiful play while the watercolor
Will fade already,
Will fade already.

I love out of date ideas of the future. There is a good film called Metropolis that has beautiful imagery in it

And also things to come has some very groovy imagery in it
