As a musician, I quite fancy leaving an Unfinished Symphony when I go- they're all the rage. Of course, I should probably write a finished symphony first for that to mean anything... that's on my bucket list.
In the novel "Among Others" by Jo Walton the teenage protagonist is a voracious reader. At a low point, she briefly considers suicide before hearing a voice in her head that just says "Not finished." Later, she decides the voice meant the new book she's in the middle of reading. I can relate to her priorities. I can picture myself on my deathbed, grimly hanging on for months until the final book in a series comes out.
Around the time "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was cancelled, a charcter in "Narbonic," one of my favourite webcomics, died. (Temporarily. Because comics.) His last thought as he drifts towards the Afterlife is "Now I'll never find out how Buffy ends. Wait. Maybe I will."
