Every time I run into someone from Arizona, my mind instantly goes to, “there is no, Ar-îzo-nah!” My mom used to listened to it when I was a kid. A couple of days ago I came across a post from an old friend of mine on another forum site, who lives in Arizona; and I think my new email pen pal also lives in Arizona, I know she lives in one of the desert states that borders Mexico.

Any songs that your parents used to listened to, that sort of pop up like this at times?

My parents mostly had Clannad on when I was a kid, Banba and Anam albums.
Unless mum was ironing: that job called for blasting The Who across the house.

Dad: Top Three

Mum: Top Three

Incidentally Greatshield, my mother's parents lived in CA but had a summer home in AZ.

Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there --- farrrrrr too hot, sunny, and barren for me.

My parents were (and still are) fans of 70's through 90's synthpop. I like most of the stuff they like too

Dad liked big band/swing music and classical music.
Mom liked Nat King Cole and had a crush on Tom Jones.

My mom used to listen to a lot of country music when I was kid, so much, I can't really recall which were her favourites. With my dad, the opposite was the case, I rarely heard his music, it's only now that I know that he likes mostly 80s music.

Of all the songs my mother listened to, my personal favourite is Long Black Train by Josh Turner for obvious reasons, I've been there:

As for my dad, my personal favourite is Up Around The Bend by Creedence Clearwater Revival, it's really catchy:

My mom played 8-track tapes constantly in the car. Her favorite was Charley Pride.
I don't recall my dad listening to music at all, but my parents did go to dances at the Legion Hall on occasion.

Never heard that song. Who did it? What kinda music was it? Rocknroll? Country? Pre Rocknroll pop-crooner type music, or what?

And why the heck did they think Arizona didn't exist? Where they living in their own private Idaho?

If I had to pick one song that I associate with mom and dad, and their pre rocknroll era music, it would be this song -from the musical "Kiss Me Kate", but covered by Ella Fitzgerald.

She did an album devoted to Cole Porter. On this cut the combination of her singing talent with his writing talent was even more than the sum of both great parts. All sorts of little asides and cultural references. Cole Porter mentions "the Kinsey Report". And she pauses from swinging style of the song to state the phrase "the Kinsey Report" in a way that sounds like telegraph machine- conveying a report..coming off the wire from Walter Winchel. So cool. Brings back the early postwar era.

Good taste! I love Ella. I'm trying to think of a song I associate with both of my parents together. Most of it is Christmas music by Elvis or Bing Crosby, but these were big too:

We had them all on the 8 Track players in our car and in the house. My mother still has them.
