hello Sweetleaf

May I ask you what you mean by Disco songs?

Do you mean songs that you are likely to hear at the disco? These may be from all sorts of genres, from rock, pop but always aimed at getting people to dance on the dance floor.

<OR>

do you mean songs from the genre of music called Disco that came from funk. Earth, Wind and Fire. Chic with Nail Rodgers etc.

Personally, I am more into funk and some dance music genres that fuse elements of disco and funk into their compositions. Recent music that does this I would say include artists like Dua Lipa, Moloko, Daft Punk etc.

Earth Wind and Fire
Sister Sledge
The Bee Gees
Donna Summers
early Micheal Jackson
Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas

TV show Soul Train

If you like Disco, you would more than likely like some of the best Funk music too
as funk is very similar but less electronic

Stevie Wonder, Funkadelic, Parliament, Average White Band (Scottish white guys playing funk)
Sly and the Family Stone, Curtis Mayfield, Issac Hayes.

You would also probably like a show on Netflix called "The Getdown"
which is a pseudo story about the rise of early hip hop, coming out of the disco era, which features famous actor Will Smith's son.

The GetDown

"Disco Inferno," by the Trammps, is one of my favorites.

"Disco Duck" is funny.

"Boogie Oogie Oogie" is also sort of cool.

Women would like "I will survive," by Gloria Gaynor.

LOL...in the 70s, if somebody wore a black rock band t-shirt, they usually said "disco sucks"---though many of them liked disco in secret LOL

My suggestions are going to be "Italo disco" from the 80s, not classic 70s disco music so bear that in mind. But Mr. Flagio- Take a Chance is a total classic dance track. Discovered it nearly 10 years ago and still put it on sometimes.
Charlie-Spacer Woman, another Italo classic
Clio was pretty good too, I recommend "Faces" or "Eyes."

Sally Shapiro is probably the best of the modern day Italo-Disco revival acts. Though her later albums are less disco and more synthpop, but still excellent. If it Doesn't Rain was my starting point and I became a huge fan instantly. Though her music tends to be a little melancholy if you pay attention to the lyrics.

“One Night in Bangkok,” circa 1985, is a fine disco/synthopop hybrid.

Am a party DJ. So I have too many favs (public favs, own favs, or both) in the disco, and funk genres, to list.

But I will mention a few Seventies/Early Eighties dance hits off of the top of my head.

Anything from the sound track of Saturday Night Fever (BeeGees, and other artists).

Freak Out (le Chic)

Rock With You (Micheal Jackson)

Working my way back to you ( Spinners)

Working My Way Back to You (Franki Valli)

The Rubberband Man (Spinners)

Dancing in September (Earth Wind and Fire)

Lets Groove Tonight (Earth Wind and Fire)

Anything by the Gap Band (especially "You Dropped a Bomb on Me", and "Party Train",).

Definitely...puts some Gap Band into the mix of your party!

Brick House (Commodores)

Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry)

If you like Eurodisco, and dont mind some Abba, you might like Boney M. (a Black group who recorded in Germany).

A classic, very gutsy for ‘78 and still considered an LGBTQ anthem

All electronica/EDM has its roots in this song

Giorgio Moroder starts Eurodisco

Boogie On!

Not entirely sure, perhaps a bit of both, it is the most recent sort of music I have been exploring so as of yet I don't know a lot of specifics. I suppose though I am more thinking of the genre. I figure a physical like disco event could have other music encouraged at dancing but I am more interested in things that would specifically be considered that style rather than like dancing music in general.

I will have to check out those newer artists, because for sure most I have heard is older stuff which is good...but I always like to hear newer groups with influence from like preceding musicians.

Listening to Macho Man by Village People, its a funny song....but I like it, for sure may have to look into more of their stuff.

As for Boney M. I heard their song Rasputin before, initially I heard a cover by a folk metal band called Turasis from scandinavia(can't remember the exact country) so that is what I was familiar with then as playlists do it eventually played the the Boney M version. I was actually surprised because I once saw an interview where Turasis mentioned 'Rasputin' was a cover but I misunderstood and thought they said it was a folk song they heard that they were covering now I am thinking maybe they said Funk and I just misheard it as folk because of their scandinavian accent.

For anyone who is interested:

I really like the energy in this one, very catchy in a good way. I think I did hear this one before though, but yeah didn't pay attention to what group it was. I am working through listening to the others you posted as well but just had to say this one specifically is great.

I really like this, I can certainly hear how it would have influenced EDM, like that is the perfect like electronica beat. I think I may just try the new headphones I ordered with this song, when they get here. I have just been using skull candy ear buds, and listening to music on bluetooth speakers for the longest time and so I ordered some good quality over ear headphones presumably DJ/Musician quality according to the website, to see how that sounds.

Ask 10 people you will get 10 different answers of what is the first disco song. This one comes up a lot.
