Did anyone else read these books when younger?
I used to love them and a movie has been made of them, albeit changed from the books

I remember the books. The film looks atrocious. I heard it was even worse than "Eragon" by most people. Sad, truly sad.

Disappointing. I have seen one image and it looks as if they have modernised it, made the kids older and generally wrecked it.
There should be more sense in who is given rights to make books into film.

Sometimes it's complicated. When Ursela K. Leguin signed away her rights to "Earthsea" she was promised a movie series like "Lord of the Rings," but somehow it came out of her control and went to the Sci-Fi channel, ending up being an atrocious miniseries that had sh***y acting and direction, a script that showed it had no understanding of the book itself, and god-awful special effects. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar had happened here.
