Starred are first time nominees

Until April 29 you can vote for 5 candidates at vote.rockhall.com. Inductees announced in May, ceremony during the fall.

Every year I mentioned that it is a done deal it is the rock and roll era hall of fame not the rock and roll hall of fame, deal with it or boycott. At least with hip hop artists or a pop artist like Madonna there is are links if not tenuous links between rock and roll and these artists. I fail to see these links with the pop country superstar Dolly Parton nor the middle of the road pop artist Dionne Warwick. Lionel Ritchie as a solo artist possibly also falls into that middle of the road category but more talented Maybe if this was not an instant reaction post I would think differently.

Otherwise this is a strong group.

Kate Bush as both an innovative, influential vocal and video, versatile, and uber talented act always tops my it is a crime she not in the hall list.

Beck is an innovative merger of alt rock and electronica.

I always discuss how those early New wave acts with their jerky, nerdy music and persona were revelations to this undiagnosed young adult. With the Talking Heads, and Elvis Costello, DEVO were the defi

Duran Duran originally thought of as a lightweight Fab Five is now recognized for thier role in making the video MTV New wave synthpop sound mainstream in America and really catchy pop songs too.

Eurythmics along with the Culture Club were two defining acts of the gender bending Second British Invasion, quite a feet during the Moral Majority Reagan era. Annie Lennox both for her solo and Eurythmics work deserves to be in on pure talent, as for the band they are in the very good but not hall worthy to me. Close call.

My fellow Long Islander the hard rocking Pat Benatar also falls into that very good but not great category.

Judas Priest is an iconic heavy metal act and key figures of the Second Wave of British Heavy Metal that revived a fading genre and sent it screaming and shouting into the 80s metal’s most popular and arguably innovative decade.

Detroit Rock City’s MC5 and glam rock’s New York Dolls are both key protopunk acts. Of the two I have to give the nod to the New York Dolls as the seemed to have more influence on the British Glam and eventually punk scenes.

Rage Against The Machine were a politically aware band in the mostly unaware late 1990s. In some ways they were a precursor to todays more activist era. Their sound is unique you know when you are hearing a Rage song. As for their sound I can not fairly judge because I find their sound grating and their influence were on bands I am to old to know about.

Speaking to old I feel unqualified to judge the hip hop acts A Tribe Called Quest and Slim Shady.

I am totally unfamiliar with Fela Kuti. I like that the hall brings these mostly unknown artists to our attention.

It's good to see A Tribe Called Quest being recognized.

I'm surprised Carly Simon has never been nominated or won before.
Dolly Parton too, actually. Or Lionel Ritchie?
I don't know the newer bands but I'll check them out.
My personal fave from the list would be DEVO, Beck, or Carly.

I'm curious to see who will win.

I forgot to mention Carly Simon in my reviews/descriptions so better late then never. One of the key figures of the early 1970s “soft rock” singer songwriter boom. The hippies were getting older and dealing with the after effects of all those free love sexual and relationship experiments. From a 2022 perspective Carly and her contemporaries provide historical documentation of an era. I never thought that song was about me.

I went to the Nashville Country Music Hall of Fame and there was a ton of Dolly Parton stuff.

I don't know how they define Rock & Roll at the Cleveland one, but my son went there once.

He said:

"If I could pick 5: DEVO, Eminem, Dolly Parton, Rage, and Tribe
I don't like em really but he is definitely one of the best rappers ever
Dolly Parton for philanthropy alone
RATM for cultural influence"

"DEVO cause they are awesome
Tribe b/c they have huge impact on all hip hop
When I think of hip hop I think of Tribe called Quest"

Interesting commentary ^

He also said it's more of a Pop Music Hall of Fame than strictly Rock & Roll.

Here's a list of former winners for interest's sake. It's a wide variety of musical styles.

Carly was folk/pop. “You’re So Vain” was about Warren Beatty, and two other men that she didn’t name publicly. Dolly is country. Slim Shady is rap. Dionne is R&B. They have wide range definition.

I adore Carly Simon's voice. I feel like she's often overlooked as a great singer.

I'm really into James Taylor too. Shame their marriage didn't last.

Judas Priest is the only group I believe is worthy to be nominated. Just me, though.
