I guess keep in mind you have other choices as well, like vibraphone if you want something with a bit of oscillation. Also don't forget EP's, clavinets, 12-string guitar, a lot of total instruments with percussive attacks, you just have to think of which tones either match or add to the piece of music you're making best.
Oh okay thanks. Well I was looking to see which instrument between the two makes for better punctuation when it comes to being played along with viols. Here is an example from a score, where you have piano played with viols, at 0:47 into this clip:
