Hi everyone,

Can you please share what your favorite music genres are? I havent seen a thread about music genres around here, so I thought to create one now.

Well, for me, I like mostly Hard Rock/Metal. Here's a list of my favorite music genres.

Power Metal
Hard Rock
Post Grunge
Alternative Metal
Pop Rock
Glam Metal

I also like sometimes:

Hip Hop
Country
Trance
Italo House

Usually whatever I listen to which isnt metal is mostly instrumental electronic music in the styles above.

20th Century Classical
Progressive Rock/Pop
60’s Pop
Psychedelic Rock
Soft Rock
Trip Hop
Art Rock

I’m not sure how to describe it exactly but anything with many layers and harmonies, especially with percussion, I tend to really enjoy. Long, sweeping notes I also enjoy.

Forgot to mention:
Bossa Nova

Genres are the wrong way to look at music.

In each genre, there is a top few % of talent that really do a great job. The best way to look at music is to search for the top % in each genre.

I am not a goth/doom metal fan, but I am a fan of My Dying Bride. However, I have strong opinions about their work - I think the genre has been a straight jacket and because of that they can't be as good as they could be.

If you see it as genres, you end up pretending you like a lot of bands that are bottom of the barrel. Theres like 5-10% of artists that are worth your time, and they aren't concentrated in one genre.
