Also, to not make the character seem boring, you'll want to put in the good ol' character development. A unique obsession is a good way to deviate as well. For instance, my Spectrumite character, Kipo, has an obsession with magnets, and an extreme fear and dislike of water, due to sensory overload.
Yeah, neat idea KBABZ
Like Chris, out of The Curious Incident With The Dog In The Night Time.
His obsession was prime numbers if I remember correctly, hence labelling the chapter numbers as prime numbers.
Yeah, that was really cool. I think why Chris was able to sell even as being VERY stereotypical is because people have never seen a perspective like his before. Funnily enough Chris is what inspired me to have a Spectrumite character, of which Kipo is the result, although upon hearing what Chris could be expanded on I did, as I have just said. I've actually used WP as a sort of guide as to what would be Aspie and what wouldn't, and have even taken some stories and experiences into her own life story. I'll post a self-written daily routine for Kipo in the Autism Forum.
I liked the 'Prime numbers are what are left when you take all the patterns away' quote.

Don't ask why, but I HATED the curious incident of the dog... etc...
I think it is because whenever I mention autism or AS, Everyone mentions it. I am NOT like the character in the book, in fact I am maths ret*d!
